This game looks terrible. I saw something this morning about the stealth missions.
If you are caught, it doesn't fail. He just says an excuse to the npc and he continues on

I’ll stick to playing GoldenEye on the N64
Remember how there used to be a time when video games were about the gameplay and not the graphics or presentation?
Seems like a foreign concept now to most people.

This just isn’t reflective of reality. People have been breathlessly talking about graphical fidelity in games for over three decades. Then, as now, the most popular games aren’t the most graphic intensive. The media just likes to talk about graphics as it’s far easier than talking about the merits of the game itself.

a major selling point of the n64 were as follows: 3d graphics, 64 bits rather than 32, and an upgrade to 'realism'. to our 2026 eyes, it looks like microwaved dogshit, but back then, it was very much marketed on its fidelity.

Really? I've heard nothing but good things. 91 on Steam from over 7,300 reviews and 87 on metacritic.

Goldeneye has infinitely more re-playability than 95% of FPS shooters that come out now

What you’re saying isn’t reflective of reality at all
AAA video games now have become nothing more than high-graphical interactive movies where you have prolonged cutscenes that derail the flow of the gameplay.

It was a good game of its era and it was received as such.
I’m not sure why people want to point at a 30 year old game in a totally different genre to issue criticism.
I wish studios had more flexibility to try new things in the modern era, but goldeneye is such nostalgia bait that I don’t know that people who played it at its height can judge it objectively.

So we aren’t actually talking about “games” or “people”, but the mythic “AAA games”. Would you please define “AAA game/studio” for the sake of this discussion?

It is straight up nostalgia, gamers today are incredibly spoiled.

Man, this game rules. Everything good from 60+ years of Bond all in one game.

I beat it earlier this week. I thought it was a decent origin story for Bond set in a modern day setting that made enough sense without any overt preachy modern day themes thrown in. Greenway and Q were both good supporting cast members.
It would have been nice if IO had the ability to make the exploration sections as open ended as their hitman missions, but what we got was fine.

It's called 007 because that is how many minutes of gameplay you get amongst 9 hours of cinematics

While i dont agree with his summation of the game being not much play and too many cutscenes….that video had me rolling lol
