Got the Mona Lisa from Redd. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if it's real.
ETA - Mona Lisa is a fake. She has eyebrows.

Ok, someone explain how I progress in this game.
I just took out the loan and my house is coming tomorrow.
I can’t build an axe to get wood or a shovel or any tools to get stone or iron.
All I can make are the fishing rod and net.
Is this game essentially set up to where I just have to put it away until a later date so I can progress?

You should be able to buy recipes for all of the tools at Nooks Cranny. But the short answer to your question is yes, you have to wait for certain things to open up. View this game like a garden. There's always something to do but time and patience are also big factors in this game

I was able to buy the stronger tools, but could not buy the flimsy ones.

Once you get the opportunity with an axe and shovel, head to an island using the Nooks Miles ticket.
As long as it's not a bamboo island, you can stock up on sticks, wood, hardwood and softwood. Also plenty of iron, clay and stones from the rocks all over the island. You'll need the shovel for that. If you plan on fishing a lot, take multiple fishing poles.
Early on when there was little to do it was the quickest way to get materials for tools. Keep them in storage and use when you need them.

I must be missing something because I don’t have access to a storage box and I’m missing these tools.

have you talked to everyone? talk to mr nook and ask him what should i do

Yeah, early on make sure to interact with Tom Nook and as many others as possible. They'll give you items and other options that will progress the story.

Last time, he told me to go fish and catch bugs.
I’ve gotten some kind of item from each person, but they are all non-progression related.
Clearly, I’m missing something.

You won't get storage until you get your house. At first you'll have 20 slots for your pockets. 5000 miles will add 10 slots, 8000 more miles will max your pocket storage out at 40.

To get your first shovel in Animal Crossing New Horizons you will need to donate 5 fish and/or bugs to Tom Nook. He'll give you a spot to set up for the museum, and once that's there Blathers will give you a recipe for a shovel. This will allow you to craft it whenever you want.Mar 21, 2020

Axe.
Stone Axe.
Shovel.
Fishing Rod.
Net.
Watering Can.

Shortly after the start of the game, the DIY Recipes for the Pretty-Good Tools become available to purchase from Timmy and Tommy. Each tool requires its Flimsy variant as well as 1 Iron nugget, except for the Axe. The Axe requires the Flimsy variant, an Iron nugget, and 3 Wood.
Unlike the Flimsy Tools, the Pretty-Good Tools aren't sold pre-made by Nook's Cranny, so players have to craft them themselves.

I haven’t had a chance to read the entire thread but wanted to put these out incase no one has seen it. Some folks have developed turnip price calculators based on crowd sourcing data.
Turnip Prophet
Turnip Calculator
They essentially give you a band of projected cost based on previous performance of turnips from your island.

I used that site yesterday and I'm pretty sure that all of my art was fake but I bought one anyway because I wouldn't mind having it in my house. I'll find out later today if I can even do that

welp, everything is pointing to my turnips being a bust this week. If anyone has a price around 200 this week let me know, I've got some fruit and turnips to dump lol

Bought turnips at 91, this morning my price was at 133. Was excited then they plummeted to 76 this afternoon. Gotta love the stalk market
Posted on 4/27/20 at 6:04 pm to Henry Jones Jr
Bought at 100, this morning they were down to 69 (heh)... Haven't checked tonight yet, but hope it starts going the right direction
64 this PM, but prediction is showing me a spike on Friday night to more than 200 per (so let's hope)

I'd you're using a predictive site like Stalks.io, after tomorrow morning you should start to get a really good idea which of the four cycles you are in and can plan pretty well. I have a good feeling I'll be selling tomorrow PM based on it looking like a small spike week.

Jesse if you'll open your gate we can swap items.
Posted on 4/27/20 at 9:48 pm to TigerFanatic99
You on, puff? I'm gonna open my gate in a moment.
Edit: read my mind, man. Dodo is GCY8L. My house is in the northwest corner. I'll be fishing around there. Catch Nook's if you can.
