Hard pass.

I think one of the key features, if you have more than a few active brain cells, is that you can extend/improve the durability of weapons with the new fuse ability.

Sounds good, but it gets old pulling up the menu a thousand times a minute to switch this, change that, fuse this thing, pick that arrow, use that shield.

Still playing it, but not looking forward to menu digging for 200 hours.

That’s crazy that he was able to play 14 minutes and only 20 weapons broke

I have recently discovered the world of Switch emulators and that (if you own a purchased copy of BotW) you can play a modded version on PC where you turn off weapon degradation.

It is a shame this is what Zelda has become.

By innovating and trying new things like they've literally done with every Zelda game ever?

I get that this isn't maybe everyones cup of tea, but there's nothing shameful about it.

I acknowledge it's a great game by almost everyone's standards, but I just can't play it. I hate that this one mechanic absolutely ruins it for me, and I've given BotW at least 5 solid attempts. It's so frustrating.

Also, the horse mechanic is just dumb. Riding it is so awkward and if you get too far away from it, it can't "hear you" and you're stuck walking. At least try to remember you're a video game every once in a while, Zelda

Never bothered me and I'm a person who never changes weapons in a game even if that's a bad move. I grow attached to my stuff so it was strange at first but I adapted. It does seem like they fixed that by letting you just infuse nonsense to any weapon.

My memory could be foggy but I do not remember ever having issues with the horse.

Hopefully I can borrow someone's switch to play this like I did with the Wii U for the last game.

My issue is that it just burdens the casual gamer, making it more like work than fun.

Witcher 3 was about all the mechanics I could handle for a game.

I don’t really get the weapon degradation complaints. There are different weapons all over the map. You can carry multiple at once and increase your inventory amount easily. Not to mention the numerous different ways to inflict damage outside of weapons.

again....we don't want to be constantly managing our weapon inventory

I feel like the divide is between almost a "min-max style of gaming" or "I want to be perfectly efficient in what I am doing at all times," and a looser free roaming experience - and that's what BotW gave people in spades.

I get the complaints, but it was fun to be in a battle with only a few weapon choices, have to pick up a stick for a bit, then figure out what weapon to aim for next. The fun was in nothing being cemented ever. I wasn't ALWAYS going to have a perfect spear to use. I forced myself to use hammers when I didn't want to etc. I couldn't have everything I REALLY liked at all times, and would have to make do if I wanted to keep progressing and not stop and go find another of weapon ,b or C just because I wanted it. Switching weapons became second nature honestly. It would have been better on a wheel or something, but it was close enough. I found myself switching weapons for situations or certain enemies. Saving weapons for expected boss fights, etc.

It's weird that the weapon system causes SO MUCh divisiveness. Like it hit a sore spot for people somewhere.

I’m going to have to hustle my arse off to beat Jedi Survivor before this comes out. The wife wasn’t too happy that I stayed up until 3 AM the other night. She has no idea what’s coming when this game comes out

Because I don’t want to have to go search for an extra durable weapon that also has enough strength to beat a lynel only for that weapon to break after I win the fight and then I gotta repeat that process 11 more times to clear all the lynels.

I like the idea of crafting meals, because I can create elixirs and such that give me a specific boost before a big fight. But having to cook, get the right weapon, get the right shield, climb to the top of this mountain in the rain and make sure I have enough stamina to get to the top or Atleast a drink to recharge half way.

Then I gotta wait till the moon is a specific color to finish the last two shrines…. Then I finally get the master sword. The be all end all weapon…. And somehow it loses its charge after a few swings?

Come on. You can have a great game without those mechanics.

I beat BoTW. And I’ll beat TOTK. But they sacrificed good story, for mechanics and that made it a chore to beat. When I finished all the shrines and all the beasts and all the lynels and finished the village….. I didn’t feel sad like I did with OOT MM TP WW SS. I was just relieve. Like that goodness that’s over. And I never returned to it. Because what brings me back isn’t the crafting system or the combat system. What brings me back is the story and the connection with characters, and the dungeons, and the cool gear I get in each dungeon.

But this had none of that. So it was a technical marvel, and completely boring at the same time.

This is what I dont like about modern games. Too much like work, and it's what keeps me going back to the simpler systems and games. This one looks like a nightmare to me, which is disappointing because I was always a Zelda fan up to majoras mask.
