Today is the last day for Zuppardo's in Metairie in their old store. They've been there for at least 6 decades.

They will be closed for an unknown amount of time. They have to transfer food off the shelves to the new building on the same plot of land. I think they'll open ASAP, but the old building will still be mere yards from the front door for the time being.

I presume they will deliberately tear down that building over a couple of weeks. When it's all gone, that spot will become the main parking area for the new store.

The new store will be 40% larger than the existing place and presumably the floors in the produce section will be level this time.

Will they still have their bacon on the floor in their cardboard shipping box in front of the bacon and sausage coolers?

I used to live a couple blocks from there in the late 70's. Do they still have bar? Great store.

They keep a decent bourbon selection. Look forward to checking the new location out.

They have a lunch counter and they used to sell some number of poboys, not what I'd call a bar though.

How do you like the wood at the front facade?

The new store is gorgeous on the interior and exterior.

Existing building will be demolished after Thanksgiving. A portion of selective demo will occur soon before the new locations opens.

Not to hijack this thread but does anyone remember that Schwegmann's used to have a bars in their stores? You could get a drink in those small hi-ball glasses and shop while you drink. I think that made for more grocery sales for them. Lol..........

Not only a bar, but an oyster bar. Also shoe repair, notary, pay your utility bill, Schwegmann's bank. You could also buy bikes, lawn mowers, crawfish nets, fishing poles and fresh worms.

Zuppardo's

never going there anymore after my last experience. Racist as frick manager and if the owners are okay with that, they can expand and go frick themselves.

I'm Vietnamese in my late 20s.

It goes:
They had 2 liters on sale, no limit. I specifically asked, nice cashier told me no limit.

So I bought 40 since we're having a large engagement party. I also bought a brisket (not on sale) since they had a decent sized one that I wanted to cook.

Went to check out, the casher asked the manager to count my cart.

So he came, gave me a snarky remark telling me "how come i only like to buy sale items", followed by "how would you like it if I came to your store and bought only items you'd lose money on".

So I told him you well you had no limit and we have an engagement party. I also noted I bought a brisket not on sale, thinking he's joking.

He told me, "dont lie, we know its going to a store. I should just come there and buy whatever you have on sale"

I gave him the most dumbfounded look, and I asked him so I own a store now, all because...?

He goes, "your corner store people always come and load up on sale items to bring back there".

I told one of the owners, blew me off.

frick them.

I drove by yesterday and they were definitely closed for business. Parking lot was packed with workers giving it the appearance of being open.

And, I'm pretty sure you could buy shotgun shells in the sporting goods dept. in the front right hand corner of the store. I want to even say that they hand a limited amount of firearms at the one on Airline and Labarre. Oh, and they sold and repaired jewelry also.

Don’t be so one sided. When a local grocery store expects its everyday customer to pick up a sale item it’s not ordering for other businesses to buy bulk. If roles were reversed you would be scratching your head and thinking the same thing. Relax and have a cocktail with your 2 liter.

I don’t think he owns a corner stone - the manager assumed that because he’s asain.
