So the monthly office birthday celebration requires a different cake each month...tell me about your favorite cakes. We’ve done the usual suspects: doberge from Gambino’s (too sweet), chantilly berry from Whole Foods or Bywater Bakery (always appreciated), the chocolate mousse cake from O’Delice, the pretty but meh Tiffany blue square cake from Sucre....and a whole bunch of other typical supermarket or mediocre bakery cakes.

I wanna hear about the area’s best birthday-type cakes. Where are you buying your party cakes?

We get our kid’s cakes from Swiss Confectionery. Noting crazy. White wedding cake with their almond butter cream icing. It’s both of my girl’s favorite.

Mayhew Bakery in Ol Metry usually has some really solid stuff but the menu changes a lot. We had some form of chocolate mousse pie a few weeks ago that was out of this world.

Also, best chocolate chip cookies on planet.

My wife knows the owners and part of the problem, besides wanting to sell the building was the issue with parking.

Their little internal parking area was a PITA to negotiate. Now at American Can, they have easy off-street and street parking right on Orleans Ave. Plus it's much easier to even get to the business now as opposed to heading to the CBD.

So the real question is how is the bakery now that it has moved? Same, better, or still need tweaking? I loved Swiss cakes. Just have not had them in a long time.

Haven't been to the new bakery, so I can't give an honest assessment, but I would think things would be pretty much the same. After all, it is only baking confections, and it's not like they moved up north where temperature, humidity levels, etc. can have an effect on such things.
