Would canned beans stored in a garage be damaged by freezing weather?

Depends, how cold is it in the garage and for how long.

If below freezing long enough for the beans to freeze then it is not an ideal situation for the canned beans.

If they are in glass jars, bring them in because they run a high risk of breaking if the contents freeze. Metal cans may be okay but they still run the risk of busting or damaging the seal. If the can is bulging, toss it.

Are they salted? Salt water freezes below fresh water right? You are likely fine. My grandparents in Illinois keep drinks in the garage all winter without issues that I know of.

What an oddly specific question.

I suppose they would, I'd bring them in or put a portable heater on in the garage.

With that said there was an old couple in their 90s who lived ina old house up the street from us. The husband made a garden and the wife canned everything. They stored their stuff in an unheated shed.

If the cans are ribbed, you should be fine. They allow for thermal expansion
