I think you mean Tex-Mex. Authentic Mexican isnt that main stream in Houston or Texas either. There are spots and they are good but generally you get Tex-Mex at most places.

It's like people forget what the Tex is in Tex-Mex....

over the last few decades Mexicans have become attuned to provide what gringos want when they come to Mexico in search of "authentic" Mexican food, I've been going to Mexico for almost fifty years and there is no resemblance in authentic Mex to what we gringos think of as Mexican food(usually Tex-Mex)

Looked at the menu and yeah, maybe. The tacos look Mexican street but there are quite a few Tex-Mex and Honduran dishes and I didnt see one Mole dish so Id say close for BR but not exactly.

Yeah I am still underwhelmed - Although they would be drastically helped by a change in venue. I really don't want to spend my restaurant money in a strip mall parking lot style venue. The drinks were decent last time I went. I don't really remember much about the food.

Don't slander the restaurant that kept me alive when I made no money.

Now maybe its eventually the downfall of my health ( I don't go there anymore but who knows what I consumed back in college )

Most disappointing: Superior. Outside of the Margs, the food is average and expensive for what you get.

Worst: I don’t like Mi Padres

You sound poor.

Also Mis Padres steak fajitas are probably best in BR.

What did you get?

That’s my favorite spot in BR that’s not a hole in the wall/supermercado situation

Zippys used to be great. Not because the food was amazing, but because it was a good spot to watch games. Go have some drinks, good vibes, and what felt like bar food mexican if you are hungry.

Then they renovated, and completely ruined it. There is no more vibe anymore, and its so loud in there you can't watch a game. The drinks feel like they are worse, but I'm sure I'm just jaded by what they've done to the place.

Id be curious if I'm alone with that take. We used to go all the time, but I've only been once since they renovated. It used to be a good place to bring kids, but I don't even consider it anymore.

My wife drug me to superior in BR a few years ago. The margaritas hit like a hammer, but the food is underwhelming and expensive. The crowd sucks arse and it’s loud.

Superior is not bad but it tastes just like all the mid TexMex in the city. The only reason it stays in business is because of those overpriced margaritas that use tequila from a plastic bottle.

Having had fajitas in most places around BR they were probably the worst I've had. Casa Maria down the road is better, which doesn't say a whole lot IMO. I find it strange that a majority of the TexMex in BR is not owned by anyone of Mexican descent.

I have Mexican in-laws (only two generations in the US). Their dinners look nothing like a Taco Bell menu.

Go around the corner to Mi Tierra (Honduran) on Perkins Road if you want even better.

When was the last time you had them? The steak itself was perfectly medium rare, the tortillas are made in house and exactly like you'd get from HEB.
