I've been in the camp for a few years now that their beers are generally overhyped. They certainly make some solid products, but people talk about their sours like they are whale status; that's hardly the case.
I'm more curious about what this means for some of the professional relationships those guys have seemed to cultivate. They've done collabs with Rare Barrel and Jester King, off the top of my head, and even secured TX distro as a result of that relationship. Think JK gonna cut those ties? Perhaps see some Goose Island collabs in their future instead? It's interesting.
ETA: And to piggyback off of the Rouge thread, what are the implications for their quality?

Terrapin was bought by AB, and it's been great. They just put a Terrapin Taproom at the new Braves stadium, partnered with Fox Brothers BBQ. The money has allowed them to expand, and the beer tastes the same.

I thought this year's batch of WnB was not as good as previous years, but that is probably more just an off batch than AB influence. It took time for AB to completely foul up things at Goose Island. I also think some of the Terrapin waxed bottles have been off lately, not infected, but just not good. That's the risk you run when you load up beers with adjuncts, I guess. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's a turd.
I fully anticipate seeing Terrapin decline markedly in the next 2-3 years, if not sooner.

I've thought the last two batches of Lolita haven't been as good, but I've told myself that's more an indicator of my palate shifting.
But then we got the most recent batch of Juliet which is significantly worse, IMO.
I still love Sofie. Haven't tried Halia, Gillian, or Madame Rose lately.

Goose Island's barrel program founders are still there, if i'm not mistaken. So is Elysian (Dick Cantwell), i think.

Sofie still is the same. It was my favorite back in the day, but my palate has shifted to more sour/funky beers. But Sofie is still a fine example of a saison.
Halia is incredible. Haven't had Juliet so i couldn't attest to that nor have I had Lolita. As other say, the price point for GI sours keeps me from buying them frequently.
I get that people treat breweries like their favorite garage bands. Once they get money it's "they're sellouts, they suck" but i find it very hard to believe the guys at WW would let that brewery suffer. (I'm not speaking of you personally, yeezy)
Another brewery that has stayed the same but with a much larger footprint has been Lagunitas.

It’s no secret that Wicked Weed has been one of our closest friends in the beer industry. Regardless of what has transpired, we’ll always consider the people of Wicked Weed friends, and want the best for them and their families.
With that said, we have some core principles that define who we are as a brewery, and those principles must not be compromised. One of our core principles is that we do not sell beer from AB In-Bev or its affiliates. We’ve chosen this stance, not because of the quality of the beer, but because a portion of the money made off of selling it is used to oppose the interests of craft brewers. In Texas, large brewers (and their distributors) routinely oppose law changes that would help small, independent brewers. We choose not to support these large brewers because of their political stances, and in some cases, their economic practices as well.
Because of this core principle, it pains us to say that we won’t be carrying Wicked Weed anymore at Jester King. We think Wicked Weed beer is some of the best in the world. Their talent, techniques, and patience produces some of the most beautiful beer we’ve ever tasted. That, combined with their great friendship, is what makes this decision so tough for us. But like we said, our core values must be paramount at the end of the day.
We wish Wicked Weed the best, will deeply miss having their beer at Jester King and working with them on collaborations, and expect them to continue to make fantastic beer. Like we mentioned, they’ll always have our friendship and we look forward to the next time we can share a beer together.

Their sell out was more egregious (based on their public attitude prior to that) but for whatever reason I never really think about it. I still like some of their beers. Maybe that will be the attitude I take when Wicked Weed hits STL.
But I think the AB connection is what brings out the strong negativity (in my mind) moreso than the "selling out" part of it.

I listened to the founder (forgot his name) a few weeks after that happened on a podcast. He admitted his initial response came off bad but clarified what the reasoning was. Just stated that he still holds the majority share stake in that company, and the "buyout" was simply a cash infusion that allowed them to grow and to payback his investors with some on top of that.

WW has plenty of shelf space in ATL. I don't see what they do fitting with a broad market approach though, from sourcing on up.

WW has had plans to be the largest sour distributor in the US. This was mentioned to me on a brewery tour there last year. Thus the new production facility. They wanted to surpass New Belgium as the largest US sour producer. This "buyout" enables them to reach that goal much quicker.

It hasn't even been 9 months and I am sure the Taproom was in motion well before that. I'm indifferent as not a big fan of their beer, but a lot of early starter breweries are cashing out.
