Why is the food at Calvin's so bad?

I shop there almost daily and my wife and I have tried several of their "home made" dinners and every one of them was bad. Is it just us or do all the meals have a funky taste?
The only thing decent there is the chicken salad.
I picked up a country fried steak lunch recently. It had white gravy and what I assumed was mashed potatoes, however it was served over rice.

They used to have good Plate lunches but I haven’t had one in awhile. I’ve never bought any homemade dinners but I don’t buy ready made much anywhere.
In addition to the chicken salad they have those small rotisserie chickens that are really good. I think they are Broaster?

The plate lunches are good if you take them home and season them properly
Sandwiches are always great as well.
If you get prepped food that's been sitting out for hours at a grocery store and expect it to be fresh that's on you

The chicken salad is the best.
I’ve bought some simple sides a few times and they were okay. I don’t think they claim to be a gourmet grocery when it comes to that.
