Most restaurant salsas are cooking/ roasting at least the tomatoes.

Jaime's. In refrigerated section of Whole Foods in Texas and bordering states. Best I've found. Frontera's good as well.

Wrights Texas Salsa...order online and shipped cold. It's raw and fresh, no preserving. shite spoils fast though so you gotta be in the mood to tear through it. A lot of people miss it at HEB and Kroger bc it's not shelved at room temperature like the rest.

Sold at Whole Foods as well. Refrigerated section. Possibly in LA as well. Not as good as Jaime's IMO.

There's another one...white label with a chile pepper on the front (like a character with eyes and stuff, maybe a cowboy hat). I can't remember the name but it's delicious. Central Market started carrying it about a year and a half ago. It's my go to because of spoilage on the wrights

Any fans of the Pain is Good brand? I sometimes use their habanero garlic to spice up milder salsas.

I bought a jar of Signature Select chipotle salsa at Albertsons the other day. I think it's the house brand, but it's not bad. Sam's Choice 4 pepper is also as good as any of the jarred offerings.

I can't believe we're four pages in, and no body has mentioned Herdez salsa. It's the best salsa I have ever bought from a store. Used to be kind of hard to find, but they even have it at Target now.

You're welcome.

This is the correct answer.

I'm the opposite, which is why I make my own so I can ferment it and make it sour.

I think it tastes like tomato water.

True and the ones that don't are using vinegar to some degree to prolong the life.

I like the Herdez green salsa..also good (for jarred) is the La Costena brand salsa ranchera. It is a deeper brick reddish brown; definitely made w/some kind of roasted peppers.

Mrs. Renfro's Green Hot Salsa is legit if you like spicy salsa. I really like most of their brand products.

I add this to some of the other salsas in this thread to apply more heat. Just a tablespoon or so mixed in. On it's own it's too hot for my taste.

Mrs. Renfro has a few salsas that are pretty hot. The green jalapeno you mentioned, a red habanero and finally a red ghost pepper salsa that borders on the insane (at least for me).

Currently, this is my go to salsa. Great flavor with a little kick in the pants.

I really like this one but in small doses. I add a little bit to a taco or burrito but it is to hot for chips.

The Kroger private selection brand has some pretty decent salsas.

Anyone got a really good standard generic Mex restaurant recipe? Always like trying new ones, but I don't want any fancy shite added, just a good generic recipe.

The wife and kids love this one. Tastes like what we get at the Mexican place around here. You can add some cilantro to it if you want. I'm not a fan of cilantro though. Salt, lime juice, and sugar are to taste. Add heat as you desire. I usually add close to a half a bottle of tiger sauce to this as well and everything goes in the food processor.

2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 can rotel
1/4 sweet onion
3 cloves garlic
1-2 jalapeños
Salt
Lime juice
Sugar
