I thought it was pretty good. Actually a lot better than I was expecting at that age. I would buy a bottle if I saw one of the shelf.

yeah the JT .. I don't think I have ever had a rice based whiskey before.
their website says "smooth" .. imma not like to see that.
In my experience "smooth" is kinda the best thing a rice whiskey can hope to be. It's a super subtle, gentle flavor that to do it right you really have to do a 100% rice bill or it get's overpowered and/or funky....see LA1...oddly best one I had was out of a little place in Jacksonville....it was good, different, def describe it as soft and smooth.

smooth is also the first thing that comes out of their mouths when describing Blanton's

I'm trying to grow as a person and be less annoyed by people who use "smooth" and pretty much only "smooth" to describe their bourbon. I run tastings for a local store and have come to learn their main clientele is the type that don't actually love bourbon, they just love the idea of it and like to be seen at parties holding a glass of it on the rocks. So I get him to bring in 90 proofers with cool back stories
but hey...nothing wrong with that..drink what ya like...even if it's just....smoooth

I tell people all the time...it's a very good $65 bottle. Nothing over that, and even at that price point there are other things on the shelf that beat it. But if you are just getting into bourbon blatnons is a great way to spend $65.spending $120+ for it is insane.

It's really a lot of fun. These tastings I do, I generally get 3-4 actual bourbon guys and really talk shop...the rest is me spinning stories about the original distiller, or bootlegging past of a bottle etc etc. Recently featured O H ingram. Decent 94 proof juice all around...nothing special...but it's aged on a floating rickhouse on the Mississippi...sold the shite out of it that day. At the end of the day though mainly just showing people that there is other stuff out there not named Eagle Rare and Blantons that they would enjoy.

Social had a bottle (JT Meleck), and I tried a glass last time I went. I would also buy a bottle if I saw one on the shelf.

JT Meleck whiskey is pretty good. I'm a big fan of their Vodka and I like that they're local to my old stomping grounds but being rice based I was worried about the tastes. Worry none, it's pretty darn good. It's got some slight spice with a significant amount of char, I'm a fan. It's also gotten better with each pour, longer it's been opened the better

They have another batch (not sure of release date but I can ask) same age but in a 55g drum I believe is what he said. So id expect it to taste a little different from the 30gal barrel should be interesting. Interested to see how it ages too since they are holding some back.

This is 90% of the new bloods that are causing the bourbon market to go parabolic. It's all about the status of it and being part of the hippest, newest trend. I am all for more people discovering whisky and learning to grow with and appreciate it, but it is frustrating when they buy just to say they bought it and will say they love a pour even if on the inside they are hating it. We live in a fake society, and this has become just another part of that unfortunately. It's all about the insta stories and TicTok cred.

100% agree...and I think part of why this particular crowd doesn't irritate me is they just want bourbon...not the allocated stuff necessarily. They almost all ask for or about blantons, but I will generally steer them to a shelfer they'll enjoy just as much if not more and they're all about it. Just wanting to drink bourbon because it's cool and not knowing anything about it irritates me far less than a majority of the people who post to my bourbon group...guys who know what's what and only post when they spend money on the allocated stuff and go..."just got this...THOUGHTS?!?!?"
One thing I appreciate is for the most part the people at my tasting tell me if they hate something....which I love..I say cool, now I get what you like...I think you should try ____ instead. Everyone that loves bourbon now had to ease in....I'm trying to at least guide people into doing it the right way lol

This is the most important part of it all. We all have our journey of how we got here. Mine was Jack&7 when in high school -> crown and water -> crown over ice -> woodford. Woodford was my first neat love, and it is what had me start exploring more. Each of us will have unique journeys, but it's actually experiencing this journey that helped develop our palates and appreciation.
New blood is out there buying the shite that gets them the most likes without even knowing what they are drinking. It's good that you have a group willing to take the time to appreciate the journey and learn from it. I don't mind sharing the spoils with them
