They make a Manhattan barrel finished cocktail mix. They finish this double rye in those barrels for 11 months.

Yesterday was 9 year anniversary of the original thread. It is great to read back on the original thread and see what was being poured and what was being recommended

And yes I have seen those. What a clever idea for a finishing product. These guys are willing to take risks, and I appreciate that. Who’s pick is that? Where is it located? I try and collect as many HW picks as I can get my hands on.

I just read a little bit. Pappy 15 being "price gouged" at $200 makes me cry a little.
Also the fact that Elmer T Lee was an easy to find $30 bottle
This makes me laugh

I got a bottle of PVW 23 and a bottle of PVW 15 and it ONLY set me back $528.00. I think this is the last year for me until it comes out of the stratosphere.
I really hate what has happened to the industry, especially since I've really only gotten into it the past year.
That's why I like this group though. For the most part, everyone here actually enjoys and drinks whiskey rather than collecting

As a new sipper, I didn't realize the original thread was so old. Imagine my dismay when I realized the stuff I wanted to try was unattainable for the prices mentioned

Which is why the industry is this way. No I am not calling you out or blaming you; hey welcome to the party, pal! It's a good one. But the fact remains that COVID lockdowns brought a lot more people into the bourbon world that was already booming for the previous couple of years.
What's happening is that whisky is a product that takes years to get on the shelves, and distillers start batches based on market size. They were never prepared for such a massive spike in popularity, so now they are doing what they can to meet demand. Unfortunately that means lesser products in some cases while others are sticking us with empty shelves and bloviated aftermarket prices. In 5 years we may see a massive price drop across the board as they are now overproducing for current demand and something else will trend.

I’ve only been in the game a few years, but since moving to Nashville it’s taken the fun out of it. People line up days in advance for releases and getting even a bottle of Buffalo Trace around here is a chore. I find myself gravitating to only store picks and buying a lot more wine. I hope the market comes back down to reality at some point.

I've been drinking bourbon for 28 years now, but only in the last few have I taken to buying more as a collector. This is strictly due to the boom that has taken away my ability to walk into a store and be able to buy whatever I want. 3 years ago I would walk in once a month and buy me a bottle or two of McKenna 10 and one bottle of a $50-75 range. Each month I would try a different expensive bottle and have my Mac10 for my daily drinker.
Then everything became very difficult to find, and I was forced to start buying more so that I will always have it. My bank account hates this new whisky world

$50-75 range
What a cheap price point for a daily pour.

Good evening baws
I picked up this dude today. 8 year 122 proof Kentucky bourbon.
I have no idea which distillery this is from, but it’s very good. Cinnamon and licorice. Definitely not Heaven Hill, Barton, or Jim Beam.
ETA: forgot the pic
