There’s a lot of truth to this.
My cousin gave me some $3k bottle pour of scotch and it was terrible.

After our flight Wednesday, one of the crew got a scotch pour. The manager brought a sample of something he described as a band-aid wrapped in bacon and dipped in diesel. It was accurate. Scotch is so gross.

Sounds like a peated scotch which is magnificent What did he pour you, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Bruichladdich?

Mmmm...band-aid
Like I said earlier, there are many, many other scotches that aren't peated. And the band-aid taste comes from the fact smoke when distilled down has an antibiotic property which was discovered long ago and used in the manufacturing of band-aids.

I'm not much of a scotch drinker but I like to point our scotch drinking customers to this graph and chart. You might like one grouping of scotches but not others, Whiskeyanalysis database If you look at the chart, you can see a V distribution of the tasting points.

Did AI tell you that? I've never gotten those flavors. Having this conversation is like talking to people that don't like IPAs. Ooooh it's gross how can you drink that?
When you start talking to distillers, blenders and other people in the industry and ask what their favorite whiskey is besides their product, the majority will list a peated scotch.

I love IPAs and hate scotch. I think it may be the sherry cask.
