Maybe this is a few isolated incidents but I keep running into people who back out of trades after I've taken the listing down or informed others that the bottles aren't available anymore. One guy asked for references on a trade and wasn't satisfied when he didn't know the half-dozen I gave him.

I havent done a trade in a while but from some of the back and forth i've seen on the various pages, some people have gotten scammed recently.

I agree that for the BTAC, Pappy and really rare bottles, it's gotten out of hand (though with the time and effort it takes to get the rarities, it's almost worth just paying the price and work instead). I will say that for several of the newer bottles including Willett's, it's still good for getting some bottles for marginal mark ups that you wouldn't otherwise have access to.

OK, need suggestions for drinking glasses for my Bourbon drinking. Anything you guys prefer over other things? I WILL drink a lot of this with ice
Also, suggestions for old fashion ingredients? Anything specific?

Old Fashioned Glasses
Bought my buddy a 4 set of these for Christmas because he was using glasses he had stolen from a hotel.
They are really nice actually for the cheap price and work well for holding liquids in a confined area.
IN my opinion the best old fashioneds are the most simple.
2oz bourbon of choice (I use benchmark, ancient age, or old charter 8)
2-4 dashes of angostura or fee brothers bitters
1 tsp of liquid sugar in the raw (turbinado cane syrup)
1 maraschino cherry
1 half dollar or so sized piece of orange peel squeezed or twisted to release the oils in the peel
Turns out fantastic every time.

I guess this is in place of simple syrup?

I just read a review of the Michter's Toasted Barrel. The review made note that the whiskey had a very smokey flavor. Can anyone who has tried this weigh in before I buy one? I'm not a fan of things like the High West Campfire or Laproiag.

Yes, dilutes in cold liquid very easily. Same thing as Ss but don't have to cook or muddle anything.

The Toasted Barrel is actually a reall good pour at $40. I didn't find it compares to campfire as far as the smokiness goes. I picked up more tannin and almost a spice to it compared to the U.S. No 1. If you can find it around the $40-45 range, I say jump on it.

Similar to a Sazerac i'm guessing?

Not quite as bitter and a little sweeter

I have had campfire and hated it...I like the toasted. Not good with describing flavor profiles.

Little off-topic, but I noticed some of you enjoy a nice cigar with your whiskey. I'm an occasional cigar smoker. Love Arturo Fuente. Wondering if yall could recommend some good cigars for me. I rather a mild-medium cigar.

Thats probably even more difficult and results in a wider variance of tastes and preferences than answering about bourbon. But my votes go to Padron 1964, Perdermo 20th anniversary or Silvio, L'atelier, or if you like spice and want something more reasonably priced....any of the My Father's Cigars (also including Don Pepin in this group as well). Just stay towards sun grown and away from Maduro based on your preference.
