I've read the first 15 pages will slowly try to work through them all. But per threads recommendations my first purchase is gonna be either Elmer T Lee or Eagle Rare.

good choices. those have been 2 of my daily drinkers for a while. unfortunatly elmer may be a thing of the past.

Something I wanted to ask that I came across was do any of y'all have experience with aging barrels? Saw you can purchase them from like 1 liter to 10 and saw some recipes that involved aging for about a few months. Anyone do this or is this just gimmicky and not worth the effort.

i've read about people doing it but never really heard that it was extremely benficial in any way

Dorignac's is gouging customers at $90/ bottle for ETL, when it's normally $30...that's your only option around NOLA metro.

There is supposed to be a new release of Elmer at 93 proof (he was 93 years old when he passed), but I haven't seen a release date on that yet.

I've heard Elmer will only be an annual release moving forward. i know there were alot of rumors about that right after he died but then they kinda slowed down and it popped up in stores here and there. well i've heard from a reputable source that they have cancelled the barrel select program for Elmer and it will be a limited release in the future

I have a 2 liter barrel. My first experiment was with buffalo trace. I lost a surprising amount to evaporation (or maybe a taste tested too often). When I dumped it, there was definitely more oak influence and the main taste that came to mind when trying it was campfire marshmallows. I quite enjoy it. On my second experiment now. I put moonshine in and I'm starting it from scratch.

Thats shitty... It's getting harder and harder to get a hold of quality affordable bottles.

I looked at Total Wine (huge liquor store in Atl area) and their website says they are currently out of stock but will get more in in April. So hopefully that's the case. I will ask next time I'm there.

I caught the wife looking at website that had them. The had 1,2,5,10 and 20 liter. And you could also have them burn a logo into the front of it they had many generic ones to chose from or you could upload your own. Seemed pretty cool.

One recipe the site listed was as follows:

Age a liter of Jack in it for 1 month. Empty and rebottle.
Then age a liter of Jäger for 1 month. Empty and rebottle.
Then put the first Jack back in for another month. Then enjoy.

They claim that the barrel soaks up some of the sweetness from the jäger and puts the flavor in the Jack. Called it Sweet Whiskey.

Also saw some where you age like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned for X amount of time.

Was just curious myself if anyone had any experience.

I personally don't have any (new to the lifestyle haha)

But back on like page 10-15 I came across this link. It's someone's 5 best bourbons for under $30.

Eagle Rare is on there and it seems to have had a lot of chatter in this thread.

Nice, I'll look for that.

Bulleit 95 is good and it's on the cheaper side as well.

Seconded! It's my everyday, go to.

I still have some ETL left and know where to get some outside Houston. At least they did have quite a few left last time I went. Since this may be it, I am going to have to go get another bottle or 2 for safekeeping.

Probably have more look reading the backend of this thread. stuff that was talked about in the beginning very well may no longer be readily available, like Elmer
