I seem to remember from physics class that cold water sinks but when it reaches 4 degrees Celsius it changes density and rises to the top. It is why you feel cold water when you dive down in the lake in the summer but the lake freezes on the top first in the winter. Could be wrong though, I am in the Willet pretty heavy.
