That's partially because he ended up with almost the entire state allocation years ago. He pulled some strings with his rep.

Not that it really matters, I know they have stockpiles of everything. He has over 200 bottles of PVW23.

If he has such a stockpile, I am wondering why he doesn't sell some of the stockpile but still keep one of each bottle on the bar. It would be different if he was counting on this years allocation to reload but it does not sound like that is the case. It doesn't compute.

I thought the same thing. I know at the moment the "bourbon boom" doesn't show any sign of slowing but eventually it will and that secondary price will drop. I wouldn't want to be left with my pants around my ankles if I was in it for profit like him.

I don't understand it either. It seems as though when your bar is known for its selection that your logic would make sense.

FYI infomercial.
the Cove will no more stock high end like 1939 Linkwood. the pappy's and other's will be there. like this year's 18 yr Elijah Craig when it is released. for that matter all "reload's" will be stocked when available.

if any one follow's the Cove, they have special's posted all the time.
like, 50% off ALL whiskey's this Sunday.
I really doubt they are hoarding or not restocking shelves. just when they run out of allocated item's---like eh taylor sour mash. or marraiage which came out in 09---I doubt they got an endless supply.

We won't sell out of anything that is pertinent to a regular bourbon drinker, there aren't enough good ones in the city with the cash to spend at bars. But yea, Sunday you can get an ounce and a quarter of every pappy for $165. That's 10, 12, 13 Rye, 15, 20, and 23. The standards will remain stocked (antique, pappy, elijah, orphan barrels, etc.)

Oh and yes, Tom has a very sizable personal collection.

That's not at all the case. Tom actually jokes about taking them to his grave to be in good company. I actually jokingly reference from time to time that there's pappy next to his cereal in the cupboard. Which is actually true. A bunch of Michters 25 too! Cheers

:edit: oh and nobody gets kickbacks... and i stated that was the distributors choice out of frustration sometime back in '08-09 if i recall. we've been purchasing this kind of stuff for 16 years now mind you.
