I'm heading to Memphis (Collierville) this weekend for Mother's Day. Anyone have any store recommendations?

Also I grew to love that McKenna 10. About 4 pours in that bottle mellowed on the oak a bit and became fantastic. I can't get it in Alabama (fricking abc overload assholes) so I stock up when I can find it.

Yeah, it's brutal when you walk past that New Orleans Spirt Exchange cabnet on the way in with all that dusty deliciousness. The first time I was there I was like, we bout to get turnt.

I mean, you can't just put a bunch of wax top Willett, Pre-fire HH and Old ND juice on display and not expect people to want to drink it.

I thought I was the only one who made simple syrup with raw sugar. Makes a mean old fashioned.

I need to try that, I normally use regular sugar. What is the taste difference?

Are you there now? Any other recipes aside from obsv in the gift shop? I'll be doing the bourbon trail next week, can't wait to drop some coin.

Damn I was excited for a second to get some scouting reports. I'll be buying every different recipe I come across. I currently have the obsf at home which I am in love with.

Tiger1242: There is a guy who posts in here under the name SingleMaltScotch. He'd probably be your best reference for a scotch recommendation.

In his absence, I'd suggest Talisker as a moderately smokey scotch but still packing great flavor. The Talisker 10 year is good, but I like the Talisker Storm and the Distillers Editions the best of their bunch.

Hey guys, I love scotch, I'm a young guy (26), and just got into it a few years ago. I mostly drink Mcallan 12 and Glenlivett but I enjoy others too.

I'm trying to get into some smokier fuller scotches but don't know which ones to try. I've had a few that were good but VERY smoky and I didn't love hat so much, I'm looking for a middle of the road smoky full scotch if anyone can offer a suggestion

Yeah... There is a guy that goes by SnglMaltScotch, but he is a jerk...

I am also not a particular fan of the smoky/peaty scotches. I am trying to acquire a taste for them but it isn't going very well honestly.

First off, let's set a baseline. The scotches from Islay more than any other whiskey (at least that I have tried) require age. Laphroaig 10 is nearly undrinkable where Laphroaig 18 is fairly good. If all you have tried are relatively young Islay scotches then sorry... You will have to spend some $$ to get where you want to be.

My suggestion is Taliskers. It is a solid whiskey that doesn't kill you. Taliskers 18 is one of the best whiskies I have ever tried. Period.

Lagavulin 16 is also a very good scotch. A bit more intensity vs Taliskers but a bit easier on the pocketbook than the Taliskers 18.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is better than the 16 but for me not worth the extra money.

Good Luck.
