Went to a place called Spirit’s a few months back when passing thru. Casual, but good.

I got a muffalatta - it was great. A little heavy on the olive salad, but just scraped some off.

Honestly, that’s probably your best bet.

Slim Pickens. Diamond grill probably nicest. Verona (Italian). Spirits casual Louisiana like and bar food. Trios is a newer place that is “nicer”. I still like tunks for fried seafood on lake Kincaid

Is Tunk's on the Lake - or whatever it's called - still around?

Tunks is not what it used to be in its heyday. Not bad for a few drinks and appetizers looking out over the water . Better have a DD though if you plan on drinking as it is 9 miles down hwy 28 west .

Spirits is good.
Diamond Grill or the Bentley Room for something a little fancier.
Verona’s is decent Italian
Tunk’s is hit or miss.

You could make the 40 minute drive up to natchitoches and go to Maglieaux’s and see all the Christmas lights on Cane River. It’s worth it. Make reservations.

Most of the good spots have been mentioned. If it’s lunch don’t forget Brocato’s or even Atwood’s.

If you want to go off the beaten path a bit, check out la petite affaire boulangers in Marksville about 30 minutes away.

I have to disagree on Spirits. It is remarkably inconsistent. You might get good food and have a good experience. You might get poorly prepared food or abnormally small portions.

Because it hasn't been mentioned, I'll recommend the restaurant in the Hotel Bentley. This and the Diamond Grill are the best bets. Alexandria's restaurant game is weak unless you like chain bar and grills or Mexican food.

Veronas is a disgusting place. They use pork in the place of veal and nothing but methhead waitresses. I went remove my daughter from working there. She didnt want to quit due to her work ethic while in college. I almost went off in a bad way on the manager. That place should be shut down by the health department!

I believe I read here when someone was looking for suggestions in Natchitoches that this restaurant closed in the Spring and was going to reopen at some point as a Mexican restaurant.

Some friends have a home on Cane River and they eat at the Cane River Commissary fairly often when there. They enjoy it. I think it's outside of town.

That's crazy if true. It was very good, imo.
