I'm gonna miss their liver and eggs. And the breakfast sandwiches made with donuts.

Baton Rouge's Kolache Kitchen will open a New Orleans location this fall on Freret Street. Kolaches are a savory pastry from Texas with origins in the Czech Republic. "It's like a pig in a blanket, but it's much better than that," said Kolache Kitchen founder Will Edwards. At Kolache Kitchen, the pastries are filled with sausage, bacon and cheese and even boudin. The "ranchero" versions have eggs in a ranchero salsa along with other ingredients like chorizo, potatoes or broccoli.

The Kolache Kitchen, which takes over the former Freret Street Poboy and Donut Shop location, will serve breakfast and lunch.

I've never really appreciated that they were.

Hate to see it go but happy for me for more breakfast places after I drop the daughter off at school nearby.
I'll be all over this:

The last time I went there the lad behind the counter gave me a dirty look and next thing there were fake charges on my debit account. Coincidence?

I guess my move to Gentilly hit them in the pocket. Sucks to see them go.

A houstonian gracing New Orleans with our fine cuisine.

Yes but I am sure the landlord looked two blocks down at the Blaze/Halal Guys Compound and said, I can get way more in rent.

They may. But it really isn't very good.

If it has some kind of jalapeno sausage it can be. Otherwise it's a bunch of hooey.

Agreed. French Truck is my steady selection when I'm roped into school duty, but there are not enough food options (savory options, at least). Same issue with Mojo... no need to include the Starbucks.

Love kolaches. These are way better than Shipley's, but it did scratch an itch.
