What's so exciting about fried pickles?

I'm scouting out restaurants for our summer vacation in a few weeks.
All of the restaurants have fried pickles as an appetizer on their menus.
I know fried pickles are trendy, but I don't get it.
I've tried them and I'm totally unimpressed. In fact, I think they taste pretty bad.
There must be some people that like them. I just can't imagine why they are so popular.

I like well made fried pickles.
But I don't get excited about them.

My daughter(9 yr old) loves them. I don't eat pickles so no opinion on fried ones.

Why is a person with a golden palate such as yourself scouting out non-Michelin starred restaurants?

They are quite tasty if done right

I've eaten them since early 80's. Not sure about trendy.
If you are unimpressed keep searching for vacation restaurants. Or here's a novel idea...just look for other items you might like. Maybe try a different vacation spot. Don't think you will find fried pickles in the Syrian countryside.

Fried pickles sure have been trendy for a very long time. I mean, maybe 100 years? At least 60 years b/c I have my grandmas old recipe and ever since I've known people and restaurants have always loved them.

I read an article that said Britney Spears favorite food is fried pickles.

Copious amounts of Ranch.

Ate my first ones in the early '70's, possibly late '60's at the original Penn's Fish House outside of Canton, Mississippi. They were awesome.

"Trendy"? I've been eating them since I was a kid.

Oh so trendy. Usually served in only the hottest restaurants and nightclubs in New York and Los Angeles.
I'm not a huge fan of them but I won't turn them down. Salty, crunchy, and fried bits of goodness. Dip in ranch or remoulade and it's good stuff.
Taste is subjective though so you not liking them isn't an indictment of fried pickles in general.

Fried pickles and beer are great.

Trendy?
I was eating them at Lyn Lou's On H-45 just north of H-82 with a sliced pork BBQ sandwich and a pitcher of cold Schlitz Beer 45 years ago.
A plate of good fried pickles is nice.
If you don't like them no one here will lose any sleep, so I wouldn't obsess over it if I were you.

Ever had deep fried bacon?
Or, chicken fried bacon?
Same thing.
