I'm seeking a few days of just getting away in New Orleans and am looking for suggestions for laid back, cost effective, locals things to do and eat, somewhat akin to a laid back picnic approach, perhaps enjoying take out food of some sort. Any advice as to parks, your favorite take out food, etc would be appreciated. I'll have transportation one way or another.

Audubon Park is nice. Or the fly.

French Quarter - would probably grab a muffaletta from Central Grocery and sit at Woldenberg Park.
Marigny/Bywater area, slice from Pizza Delicious, one of their pastas, and go over to Crescent Park.
MidCity - Crawfish and a daiquiri or a po boy from Bevi and go to City Park.
Uptown - St. James and the Wine Seller for cheese, meat, baguette, wine and go to the Fly or Audubon Park or even Danneel Park.

Bacchanal - Would give you the feel of a picnic. Although that is probably not the cheapest option.
You could always get some cheese from St. James Cheese Co. and head to Audubon Park, The Fly, or Crecent City Park.

I find city park is much more quieter than Audubon. A lot little spots you can hang out without being bothered by noise or people

Thanks for the suggestions. We hit up Audubon Park briefly on Tuesday and also Cooter Brown's and Jacques-Imo's, both places now crossed off on my bucket list. (Cafe Degas still on my list) Bayona was also crossed off on this day.
Wednesday was all City Park. Brought some fruit and picked up two banh mi from Mr. Bubbles on Canal. Ate those on a park bench under large oaks, surrounded by ducks and water, which was an absolutely perfect setting, then hit up the sculpture garden. Turns out Wednesdays at the botanical gardens are free to LA residents so we took advantage of that as well. Also took a train ride even though we'd already walked and seen the entire park. It was a nice ending to the day.
We wanted to go to the Fair Grounds for the horses, but after multiple calls and checking their website, I couldn't figure out if races were happening.
Thanks for the recommendations, and I wanted to reply because I love hearing about people's experiences after asking advice here.

Tables out from Whole Foods on Magazine. It's pretty remote.
