I miss the old Ruby's. Original location was under the overpass, until they built the location that once housed Cippriani's. Old Doc Pennington would eat at the end of the bar every night.

Growing up in New Roads, we had a place called The Ox Bow on False River. I remember it being good when I was a kid. It eventually moved to St. Francisville, but wasn't the same. Also, the original Ralph and Kakoo's when it was in N. BR on Airline and the Olindes owned it. I remember all of us going to eat there for our junior prom.

Your, "Oxbow" on False River was the location of the original Ralph and Kacoos. The one on Airline followed it. I always enjoyed the Airline location. There were many long time servers there. I always like seeing the familiar faces.
The Oxbow was the name used by more than one owner at the old location in Oscar, LA. The most recent owners moved to the restaurant at the Myrtles in Saint Francisville before moving to their final location just South of there. Their food was great. After the untimely death of it's managing owner, It was plagued by horrible servers, and mismanagement. It succumbed to itself about this time last year.

You realize the Oxbow WAS the original location of Ralph and Kakoos, not Airline?

I didn't know that and I grew up here, 37 now. That must've been long ago because I don't remember the Oxbow being anything else and the earliest memory of R&K was at the old Airline location. Learn something new every day.

quote:When he ate at Gino's, we cooked chicken tenderloins for his dog, which he brought with him to the restaurant. The tenderloins were to-go; he didn't feed the dog in the restaurant. Lawrence would tell us stories of shooting a Gatling gun from Doc Pennington's back porch.
Old Doc Pennington would eat at the end of the bar every night.

Favorite Lost Restaurant: Giamanco's
There’s no place like home—or a restaurant that feels like home. Giamanco’s in Baton Rouge fit the bill with its relaxed atmosphere along with what patrons called “the best food in the world.”

Anybody remember this place?
Supposedly it reopened a few years ago -- is it still open?
