What's your favorite...

My wife has been searching for some since she likes them and it's been years since Manuel's Hot Tamales has shut down and use to be her favorites.
She has gotten some at Canseco's grocery store and recently tried some from Chris' Meats on Harrison Ave. and West End Blvd. and likes them much better. I recently got her 2 dozen from there and they run about $14 on average per dozen as they are sold by the pound.
However, they sell fast, so call first if interested. Their number is 309-0010
ETA: Forgot to mention, these are beef tamales, and that makes a difference to some folks.

I've heard good things about Pass a Dozen in Central but have yet to try it. The best tamales I've had recently are the regular pork ones from Costco, ppl can downvote if they like, but they are fantastic.

I want to say Guillory's.. I had the tamales when I was starving so my tastebuds might have been compromised.. I did get a Cuban sandwich there and they screwed me on the roast pork.. It might as well have been a ham sandwich..

Mamita's Hot Tamales.. Mamita worked with Manuel and the same recipe is used today.

She even did a segment on Naturally N'awlins with Frank Davis in 1999 at 97 yrs old. LINK

Mamita's is an entirely different style from Manuel's. They're good, but not good like Manuel's.

There’s a guy that walks around the Quarter... I think he’s Ecuadorean or something... maybe he’s just a regular ol’ Mexican. He sells the Central American style tamales out of a cooler. Wrapped in banana leaves. Different, but pretty good.

Mi Bop’s sells at different markets in Mandeville and Covington...best I’ve been able to find over here.

Mamita's is the original that Manuel's was based on.
You can find them on Facebook.

Ben’s Pizza in da Parish has the best I’ve eaten. They used to sell Manuel’s. In the post-Manuel era, the ones they sell now are virtually identical to Manuel’s, though a tad less greasy.

Manuel Hernandez worked for them, OK. But he perfected the recipe and left his former employers in the dust. Of course Mamita's would want to claim Manuel's as they're own, but the tamales were pretty different.

I've gotten deer tamales at Dorignac's before. Don't remember brand but seem to remember they were from the Westbank.
