Went to Hopdoddy Burger Bar for the First Time Today

BLUF: Mediocre at best.
I had the Diablo burger cooked medium rare. This hamburger was hardly spicy whatsoever. The "angus" meat is mediocre. I will give them props for actual cooking my burger medium rare. Most places you tell medium rare it comes out medium. The wife had the magic shroom also medium rare. Again mediocre.
The truffle fires were overcooked, but the parmesan garlic aoili was very good.
Won't waste my time there again and comparatively Twisted Root is much better.

I'm a pretty big fan of Hopdoddy, but I've never had either of those burgers there. The Goodnight/Good Cause is money.
What location were you at?

Wow, that's disappointing to hear. I'm a huge Hopdoddy fan and feel like they're usually pretty consistent. I normally get the Diablo add egg so the fact that you had that one and didn't like it is pretty surprising. Which location? I know they've opened a number of new stores in the last couple of years. Maybe they've expanded a little too rapidly? Although, I had one this past Nov. at the Anderson Lane location and it was good.

If ever in Dallas, go to Angry Dog for the best burger in town. Twisted Root is located right down the street as well.

Agreed Hopdoddy is overrated.
I lived directly across the street from the South Congress location in Austin for 3 years and went maybe 4 times. The burgers are good, but certainly not worth the wait. The place has so much hype and in my mind I can get as good of a burger elsewhere.
If you get the chance to go without any wait, then it is worth going. However, it is not worth standing in line for.

Wasn't impressed when I tried their Houston location. Though I haven't been to shake shack Houston, the times I've had shake shack in NYC...their burger was much better.

One of the best ahi tuna burgers I've had was at Hopdoddy on south Congress.

Been wanting to go the new Houston location. I'm not a freak about places that try to reinvent the burger but I'm as big a burger fan as anyone could possibly be. Would you say that I'd be happy if I went and got a standard burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and condiments to my choosing cooked mid rare that I'd be happy?
Furthermore, why is the burger I described so perfect but so difficult to find?

I have no idea where they source their beef, but their claim of "angus" is questionable based on what I ate yesterday. Tasted like some USDA select beef.
