the one on jefferson is better than the one on perkins but a lot of that is because of the menu.

their brisket and ribs are fire

their M&C is the bomb. Has a slight kick to it.

Hipster BBQ I'd say is usually better than say, Podnah's or some of those bbq shite houses I can't think of the name of.

Normally, a "Brisket sandwich" uses chopped brisket. It's often called a "Chopped Brisket Sandwich." That's your own fault if you didn't know this.

You just destroyed a man's business because you thought the greens were too bitter? Come on now. Think about this.

Tiger Deauxnuts & BBQ is doing things right.

Daughter's bday yesterday, for whatever reason, this was her selection. (city pork on Jeff hwy)

Her and I shared, "the special", ribeye, smashed potatoes, with scallops? I think. They nicely split if for us. Certainly a disappointment. Thin, tough, and no flavor. Potatoes were bland. I didn't care for the scallops, but was my first experience with them, so I have no comparison.

Prior to that was an app plate of smoked duck breast and two cheeses. The duck was good and the cheese was okay. The plate also had some very hot mustard on it, some nice honey along with some little bread cracker things.

Atmosphere is cute. Maybe a good place for a drink and an app, but I'll pass on the food. Shame on me for not researching what I should've ordered beforehand.

They used to be top of my list for going out to eat but it definitely had a downgrade in quality. The springrolls are still great and the rabbit and dumplings really good. The price point keeps going up but the quality is stagnant.

OK so what he had sucked so now he doesn't want to go back. It's pretty simple, you can't have something on the menu that's not worth a shite. If people get it and it's not good they're going to assume that is the quality of the restaurant.

I agree with Mingo.

quote:

The hype was unreal on this board when it first opened
The restaurants that are operating today are in NO WAY the same as the deli when it first opened. When it first opened, it was fanfrickingtastic and was absolutely a novel and great addition to the food scene of this city. Every week or two there was a new item of charcuterie that they were serving and they'd constantly rotate the items available as they tried new things and to keep things fresh. Then their world-class charcuterie guy left and they were stuck doing the recipes he left behind; they were almost as good at executing the recipes as he was, but the innovation and the constant novelty in their offerings were gone. Then Hightower got his claws into it and it changed. For the worse. It went from a great charcuterie place that made sandwiches with their meats to a mediocre sandwich shop that also made a couple of boring items of charcuterie. Then the second restaurant opened.

Had dinner at the Jefferson location tonight. Cocktails were great. Salmon tartine and charcuterie board for an app, both of which were good, as always. The pickled beets were a nice extra. Lenten mac and cheese and the glazed salmon after that. Both would make solid additions to the menu, but the salmon was particularly good.

I think if people stopped thinking of it as a “BBQ place” there would be far fewer panties in bunches.

It's called City Pork. What are we supposed to think of it as?

It’s smoked meat for the most part... bbq is always pricey. Have any of you ever been to a Texas bbq joint? It’s expensive, they lose a lot of weight in the smoking process. It’s part of eating the style of food. shite, it’s $22 a lb for brisket at a good joint in Texas.

I enjoy the place and I enjoy the brisket sandwich there. Have I had better brisket? definitely. But to say it’s terrible is kind of a bit of a stretch.

That being said, it’s known why Andres left. Hightower wanted to cut back some of the cost on the quality of the product being brought in. It’s still good, but not as good as when Andres was there.

It’s definitely not the same nor close to as good as it once was. Stephen is not calling the shots now, Valluzo is.

If you offer/sell me the ribeye special of the day, is it wrong to expect it to be good?

Do the potatoes need to be bland since it's not a bbq place?

This. I like the club sandwich and the brisket sandwich is good too. Everything else seems ehh. The brunch used to be great too, but they changed the menus about a year ago and it’s just ehh.
I still think it’s pretty good overall, but I definitely don’t go as often as I used to.
