Yea, maybe pre-outsourcing

I’m going to have to give TR another shot. I tired a few different beers from them a couple of heads ago and really disliked them, and I can drink about anything.

If you're an IPA fan the Ouest Coast Pale Ale they have on tap is very very good.
I guess this was the new new recipe Voodoo. They cleaned it up a month or two back and changed the yeast. A slightly more Belgian-ish taste as far as my rough palate can tell.

I’d say for some palates, Voodoo is better than Envie. I’ve had that experience.
I probably drink a little more envie than voodoo, but I've definitely had that experience where I preferred voodoo to envie in a side by side.

Envie sucks since the outsourcing. It’s gone way downhill
Voodoo is even better since they tweaked the recipe a few months back. To me it’s way better than envie now

Was at a friends the other night-they had a six pack of Envie bottles iced for one guy that only drinks beer and he is as big of a beer guy as anyone on this board. He drank 3 then opened the 4th and the whole kitchen smelled like rotten eggs. Opened 5th and 6th same thing. Not sure what happened but they got pitched.

I haven’t seen envie bottles fresher than April around here

I heard they recently made some unannounced, minor tweaks to Voodoo. I haven’t tried it recently, but maybe those helped a lot. When they revamped/rebranded it a year or so ago, it thought it was a good, easy drinker that just didn’t have much flavor pop.
You have to also consider that most successful, established breweries aren’t sending beer to GABF to be judged. Nevertheless, they beat out 131 entries in that category from other American breweries that entered beer they thought could win. That’s pretty impressive and certainly something for them to be proud of.
I think it is also funny that Parish has been trying hard to medal in GABF for years.

I think that’s a fair question - but can you name a better “hazy pale ale” you’ve had?
is jucifer a hazy pale ale? If it is it’s better than voodoo
voodoo though is no question better than envie to me. I can never drink more than one envie, it doesn’t make me want to drink another one.

You think new Belgium, Sam adams, Sierra Nevada, etc aren't sending beer?

New Belgium and St. Arnold had some beers place. I wonder if places like Treehouse, Trillium, Angry Chair, Great Notion, Monkish, etc send beers
Posted on 9/23/18 at 12:13 pm to tduecen
I'm willing to bet they do. There isn't a brewery out there that wouldn't love to slap that little gabf medal all over their packaging.
Posted on 9/23/18 at 12:19 pm to LSURoss
I think a lot of the ones that tduecen mentioned and other highly-rated breweries don’t send beer. If they did, there would a lot more than 132 entries for hazy pale ale.
Is there a way to see who all entered this year? I’d be curious.

There isn't a way to see all entries, I don't believe

So Breweries have to pay to enter

No, it's a full IPA.
Huge deal for Tin Roof, first ever GABF gold medal for a Louisiana brewery.
There were 132 entries into the category.
Posted on 9/23/18 at 12:50 pm to tduecen
That list is beers served or beers entered?
Posted on 9/23/18 at 12:52 pm to urinetrouble
Eh, it doesn't specifically say, I assumed entered since it is listed like that and they do not have a list for "entered" beer specifically.
Posted on 9/23/18 at 1:16 pm to tduecen
How do you know those breweries didn't send anything? Just curious.
