Buy a ham get a free turkey at Rouses

This year it’s a Smithfield, not a Hormel Cure 81
My Dad is not pleased
They are 1.99 a pound & most are around 15# (Juban)
Also, they didn’t have the free ham (we weren’t getting it either way)

Any of you ever see thigh quarters? I can find drums and thighs, but not quarters.

Paying $3.49/lb for an Amish farm fresh bird. Somewhere between 14 and 16 lbs. It comes in Monday.

My local Costco is doing $25 off Plainville fresh organic turkeys which were priced at $3.49/lb. 14.5lb turkey was $25. I'll shove it in the freezer and cook it up in a couple of weeks. It's not as cheap as a Butterball but it puts it in that range.

The wife bought two of the Publix $0.49 a pound turkeys . I suspect one will get cooked for Christmas and the other for Easter. She doesn't like Butterball turkeys, but the rest are just turkeys to me.

It's the turkey noodle soup made from the carcass and turkey salad made from the leftovers that I look forward to.

I did get a Butterball at Winn Dixie for .99 a pound.. I thawed it in the frig in a pan.. That bird had a shite ton of water in it.. The pan that it was in was full to the rim. I cooked it and it was fine..

It was very good. My MIL (no pics) said it was the best turkey she had ever tasted but I don't know about that.

It was a small bird, maybe 10 or 11 pounds at most - so it didn't yield a lot of meat but was plenty for us. I dry brined and smoked at 225. It was probably done in less than 4 hours.

Glad I did it because my buddy raised it, but I don't see paying that much for a bird normally.

One thing was interesting. The dark meat was really DARK. I liked it but it would turn some people off I imagine.
