Sure they do.

quote:

If the property owner fails to respond to the violation notice or is unwilling to correct the problem, the Commission files an affidavit of charges against parties responsible for the violations with the City's Administrative Adjudication Bureau and/or the applicable court(s). Commission inspectors are deputized by the New Orleans Police Department and may issue a summons directly to a responsible party on the premises for certain violations.

They do. But they don't do shite.

Hopefully with the "one stop shop" at city hall, enforcement will be taken care of.

Thanks for the update, especially a good one. I hope an angel such as Besh could step up and save Tujaques.

Maybe the problem is not him so much as it's the person selling or the people of N.O. who don't frequent Tujaque's enough for it to remain a desirable venture for the new owner.

The restaurant is fine. The building is being sold out from underneath them.

The seller is the restaurant owner's brother.

The free market allows Motwani to purchase...piss of the food board...and have his sales dwindle at said location if the people of Nola are truly upset about this.

It is not the people of New Orleans who keep the t-shirt shops in business. It is the tourists who are buffoons who come down here to slop around in their flip flops and idiotic t-shirts spilling daiquiris and Hurricanes everywhere while standing in line for an hour to get into Acme. I am glad they come and spend money, but how many souvenir shops do we need?

The seller is the restaurant's present owner's uncle.

I'm starting to think this Tujaque's to a Tshirt thing is a publicity stunt.

My thoughts from jump. I heard that it can't be turned into a souvenir shop anyway, because it isn't zoned for that. At most it would be another restaurant.

I assure you that is not the case. The threat of a sale to Mike Motwani by Stanford Latter is very real. They have had many dealings in the past and shared an office together many years ago.

I know the present owner of the restaurant, Mark Latter, has reached out to several prominent New Orleans businessmen in the hope of finding someone besides Motwani to purchase the building.

In turn he has been contacted by other restaurant owners, John Besh included, about possible ways of saving the business.

The outpouring of sympathy and support by New Orleanians has been heart-warming and hopefully a white knight will show up to save the day.

We don't want to see this one day.

The cold hard truth is...

T-shirts have a higher profit margin.

thanks for that link

Among the parties the family has spoken to is the local restaurant mogul John Besh, he said. Stanford Latter is receptive to the offers, his nephew said. “Once the story hit the media, and he realized how important the restaurant was to the city, he changed his tune.”

lol. so are we supposed to all of a sudden think he's a stand-up guy. anybody can do the right thing with the help of hindsight.

I ate at Tujaque's last year and thought that it was pretty bad. They were in need of some serious updating (cleaning) and the menu was as outdated as can be imagined. It actually stunk in the place.

Yes.

How do you prevent such a thing from happening? Maybe they should make Tujaques a better and more profitable restaurant.

Say you're gonna turn it into a Tshirt shop. Instant spike in business. I've heard more about Tujaque's in the last couple of weeks than I have my entire life.

I actually go to the bar just about every time I'm in the FQ. My family has a condo right there on Madison.

Bump to see if there is an update to this story. I made a reservation this weekend for next weekend and they confirmed. So they are open for now.
