How is it any diffrent than a WF or Fresh Market?

It's a lot smaller. Most of the stuff they sell is their own brand of products, and a lot of the things they have on the shelves are unique or different things you wouldn't find elsewhere. Tons of boxed, bagged, snack type things. Cool if you're into that; just not my style. It sure was cool as frick to be toting around a TJ something or other on the subway. People would know how hip you were. I also didn't find their produce or meat all that fresh or appealing. The WF in Columbus Circle was a lot better. Best salad bar I've ever seen at a grocer btw.

And as much as they pimp their cheese and wine selection, while cheap, it's full of a lot of duds.

Sounds like I won't have much use for this place then.

They have a great selection of unique and inexpensive frozen meals. Everything they have seems to be some kind of out of the box, delicious, pre-packaged, inexpensive item.

I've been more than once to TJ's and found things of interest and quality on each visit, though it wouldn't be a one stop shopping visit for me. I've bought cheeses that were fine and reasonably priced. Haven't bought wine there or any frozen foods that I can recall. I love the salted dark chocolate almonds. I'll grab some of that bacon next time I'm there.

When I lived in NYC people used to go fricking nuts over the place. Finally caved and visited one once. Nothing special at all about the place .. expensive and packed as shite.
Seriously? I live in NYC and my grocery bill is about 1/3-1/2 less when I go to TJ versus the stores by my apartment. The crowd sucks but if you're broke that's the place to go.

Go to a meat market and buy the whole slab. Quarter it into gallon ziplocs. Cut to what ever thickness you desire...success. I'm not big on the prepackaged stuff.

On the surface I get where you're coming from, but this post completely lacks perspective. What kinds of foodstuffs are you buying? What's their size and quality compared to a Gristede's? Or buying fruit from a bodega or fruit cart? Or meat directly from a butcher? Or special produce and fish from a vendor in chinatown?

You are doing something wrong brah. Shitty frozen food at a trendy over rated shite box of a grocery store shouldn't be any cheaper than the ability to get off your arse, plan, and cook a good meal using fresh ingredients.

i'm 24 and in graduate school and don't have time or money to make big, home cooked meals. TJ's is the best option for me. I paid $200 for food that will last me well over 2 weeks, including 4 or 5 pre made meals that are enough to serve 2.

i don't give a shite if it's hip or trendy. it's cheap as frick, far cheaper than the local grocery.

jesus dear god in heaven. I spend maybe $50 a week on food @ the grocer and usually not even that much.

i rarely eat out. maybe once a week, at most.

and let me rephrase that…it was $200 for me and the lady. about $110 of it was for me, $90 for her.

R2R, what do we need to do to get you in a financial position to spend a little more that 50 bones a week on food.

What is your current occupation? Seriously bro, I'm trying to help.

I'm just trying to work my way into the suburbs. Have the gf squeeze out a couple of puppies then take shortcuts with their health.

He would be able to feed himself if he wasn't spending $8-10k a year on "craft beer".
