Beverage 101 is that you can't sell your product if it is stuck in the back room and not on the shelf or in a cooler. Generally the stores stock the shelves themselves. If you go to a Rouses you will notice there is a Liquor manager at all locations. They have that person to deal with the multiple distributors, suppliers and to stock the shelves.
There has always been a sort of understanding that if a rep goes into an account, his shelf is empty and the manager or employee is busy, the rep would then fill the shelf to do right for their and the retailer's business.
Total Wines is a massive player especially in Florida and Texas. They incorrectly assumed they could make the distributors do all the work for them. When the distributors used state law to try and back them down, Total Wines threw a fit and complained to the ABC.
So yes, grocery stores probably get hurt the most. The real winner of this are the sales reps as they are just going in, writing an order, cleaning up their displays and getting the hell out of there

Thanks so much for the response. You spelled it out better than me.
My Winn Dixie comment earlier was somewhat related. They aren’t allowing the reps to stock because of Covid I guess? The shelves have turned to crap during some of this because the stores in general are crap.

Winn Dixie also doesn't have liquor managers like a Rouses/Albertsons/Kroger. So yes they will constantly be out of stock and look like crap because they get little to no attention unless the store manager in constantly making sure that section is getting filled.

Any free samples today?

Interesting
So it’s the distributors who are pissed. They can’t go to Martins and make sure their products stocked.

This place is going to sell tons of Prisoner old metry wives
I am scared what it will do to smaller shops though. Hopefully my uptown places don’t take a hit. They’ve been been crushing it since covid.

I would Say uptown places may be safe due to convenience.
There aren’t a ton of wine shops in Metairie besides Martins.

Free samples in Metry would be an endless line into the store.
With no purchases.

I'm looking forward to the one opening in Mandeville this weekend.
I was checking out prices online and a few I checked out are cheaper than Sam's. I guess it'll be my new wine destination.

Total Wines is upset because they aren't able to force distributors to hire the labor for them.
All other retailers are the big loser because most reps would help fill shelves and merchandise when they were in the accounts.
Sales reps the big winner because they work less and get in and out of accounts quicker.

Why wouldn't you support Acquistapace, a locally owned family store who have the best selection and prices in the state?

My favorite tequila when I lived in Northern Mexico was Gran Centenario Anejo which I could get in Reynosa for $14.00 a bottle it's 24.00/bottle at Total Wine in Houston and 52/bottle here in Lafayette at Marcello's which is the only place that carries that brand of Tequila. When Total Wine tried to go into the San Antonio Market they got sued by Gabriel's Wine and Spirits( which is owned by a SA family with many family members being lawyers) well they kept them at bay for 2 years and Pissed the big boys off..they opened 2 Total Wines in SA instead of 1 and now Gabriel's has closed 10 stores and filed for Bankruptcy! Total wine is a giant in the wine and spirits business...in 5 years the landscape of liquor business in New Orleans will be alot different then it is today...THE CONSUMER WINS in this game BIG TIME!
