San Jose, you'll find Safeway runs specials sometimes that are close, but they have none of the selection. The tequila selection here is mind boggling.

I went to a liquor store in Los Angeles once and they had tons of tequila and vodka and only a few bourbons.
I commented “not in the south are we?” Haha

Do they? I'm looking at the prices online at the Lafayette store, and they don't really seem much cheaper if at all than the local options. Matching the Total Wine and Martin's prices online, they seem to be the same for what I usually order. Plus Martin's has same day delivery.

For basics... they are about on price with local places. A 1.75 of Bacardi costs about the same everywhere. Kaluha I've actually found cheaper at local places.

Where I find TW shines is in harder to find stuff, in that they 1) have it and 2) get it cheaper. For example, blue curacao, I find it's $3-$4 less per L than anywhere else... and they have a number of brands of it.

Calandros need only look to what happened to the 2 dominate families in the Wine&Spirts business in San Antonio, Tx...they got together and sued TW to try to keep them at bay from entering the SA market...work for 2 years as they kept them in court room and when all legal actions where exhausted they.. TW...opened 2 TW in Greater SA market and now today the Gabriel family(mainly a family of lawyers) which at one time had 40 locations and had been in business for 70 yrs..is no longer in business ....competition is a good thing ...embrace it ...or face the consequences..

They are crushing local businesses everywhere. It’s sad.

And it’s going to get worse if the proposed tax legislation goes through.
Don’t believe the “taxing billionaires” bs.
It’s the business owning middle class that they are after.

Total Wine brings in a ton of local brews which helps the local economy. Calandro's is fine if you want to overpay for the same exact product. Louisiana is extreme pro-locally owned business to the point where people would love to be poor but "geaux leauxcal".

Tell that to the local grocers around total wine in Metairie. You are wrong. Their sprit & wine numbers have crashed since that store opened. And crash isn’t an exaggeration

Total Wine isn’t the bad guy….

You want better prices time to take a look at our distribution laws, dated and way too consolidated among a few distributors. How that industry doesn’t catch more heat, I don’t know

Pretty sure, people that go out of their way to buy local, knowing the prices will be higher, aren't poor.

Just an FYI. You aren't going to find any beers at Total Wine that you won't find anywhere else. Total Wine doesn't get stuff that other places don't, in terms of beer. The availability of brands is due to distribution. If the brewery decides to expand to Louisiana, then all of the regular beer places that have craft, will get it. You're not gonna see Total Wine getting anything from Russian River in Louisiana, for example, because RR doesn't distribute to Louisiana. If they did, then Calandro's, Hokus Pokus, Rouses, Alexander's, etc... would already have it. Now you might get it cheaper at TW, i don't know. But if you are getting it noticeably cheaper, then they are likely selling the beer at cost and taking a loss, in order to get customers in the door to make their money on other products (wine, spirits).

I went to a TW in Texas and wasn't impressed. I found that Spec's had a much better selection.

Sucks to suck. Don't overcharge for the exact same product.

If everyone's prices are crashing, then it's not "overcharging". It's Total Wine artificially devaluing the market.

Well this isn’t true at all… both in that shopping locally isn’t unique to Louisiana, and in that poor people don’t care or (even sometimes know) about shopping locally.

Depends on which Spec's location. Some suck, some rock.
