Shirley is solid and I'd eat her food

No doubt about it. She is one of the top chefs, easily.

Something about her rubs me the wrong way. I feel her direct (chinese) ethnicity allows her to avoid cooking different styles. This gives her an unearned advantage. IMO

The judges were obviously blown away by the sauce last night and I sure would like to try that dish.

ETA: In RE: Nick's quinoa, I think he is the one who set the oven at 500'?

All of these chefs pretty much cook "their" food. Richard Blais went a whole two seasons doing nothing but riffs on modernist cuisine. Same for the Voltaggio Brothers (as an aside Volt in Frederick, MD was fantastic), and then there was Jamie from NYC season who cooked nothing but scallops.

Shirley plays in the French technique sandbox with a lot of Chinese ingredients.

I like Shirley. The description of her dish really made me want to try it. The broth/sauce sounded so good. I go hot and cold with Nina. She appeared to be the front runner until Shirley started really upping her game and I think that French connection she's putting in is serving her well.

I thought Nic would go this time, but I knew it was close. Out of all of them, I'm tired of Carlos and then Nic. I haven't felt much for Brian one way or another.

What's going to be interesting is who wins Last Chance Kitchen. I think that guy (forgot his name) could come in and win it all if he win's the next Last Chance challenge. He's got 7 in a row right now and he looks so focused in the kitchen. If he comes back, I might be rooting for him. He's put out some good looking dishes in those competitions. Roasted some vegetables under pork fat in the wood burning kitchen for his challenge against Brian. Brian did better than he's done in that challenge.

I completely agris, gris!

I haven't watched Last Chance but may check it out this week. I'm not in love with anyone remaining and may jump to his ship if he survives.

Thought I would pull for Nick but his paranoia is growing old.

The Last Chance videos are short. You can watch online or on VOD. That guy is on fiyah! I have to look up his name, but I'm blank this morning.

I think Roy got taken by the "bet I can tell you where you got dem shoes" guy.

He destroyed the chefs.

Yea I think he went over the top with his criticism. I didn't get to taste the poboys but I seriously doubt they were as bad as he made them out to be. A few of them looked good to me.

I'm pulling for Louis. He's kicking serious butt in last chance kitchen. Shirley puts out good food but seems too cry too much. Not really invested in any of the other chefs.

I wasn't invested in anyone after our two guys left, but when I started watching Louis in Last Chance, particularly the past 3 weeks, he's a winner. He was cut way too soon. I can't recall why he was booted, but I like the Last Chance deal. I don't know how it's worked in the past, but this guy, so far, has shown that he deserves to be back. He's renewed my interest.

I don't think he was pissed because they tasted bad. He was pissed because they just did standard poboys, nobody really created anything new.

I hate to say, our two guys had some of the worst attitudes on the show. Justin makes me not even want to try Le Petite grocery.

I didn't find Justin's attitude troublesome.

Some of them were a little out of the box I thought. The only one that was a standard poboy was probably the shrimp one which actually looked pretty good.

Those challenges are so tough. You have like 30 minutes to create something out of the box. Seems tough to do in such little time.

Like I said, I didn't get to taste them. Just thought he was nitpicking on little things. Like Nick's he said the mayo wasn't throughout the whole sandwich and Shirley's was boring because she used catfish. He just came off with a big ego to me but who knows.

I didn't as much as some of the people. The only time he seemed to get aggravated was with the judges. In the interview with nola, he thought he really nailed the gumbo and hog challenge but they both critiqued those two. A lot of personal preference with cooking and I'm sure there are some really good chefs on the show. Which makes it even harder to go home when your dish was still good. And it's still a show. Not sure how good a show like this translates to the real world. In the real world, you have time to plan everything out and take your time. In these cooking shows, some of the cooking challenges are almost impossible to pull off perfectly.

I've eaten at Le Petite a few times and it was really great every time.

Nobody has created anything new in cooking in a couple hundred years. Roy Choi runs some foodtrucks which put Korean food in a taco shell, not exactly enough for him to be considered an expert on po boys in my book.

I agree with you. The catfish sounded boring, but some of the flavors in the others sounded good to me. Obviously, I have no idea how those flavors stood up in the poboy, but that guy sounded like an egotistical arse.

Louis is kicking arse.

With the remaining chefs I would eat at Shirleys restaurant first, then Nina, Carlos, and Brian last. He sais he was working in a kitchen where a new owner took over, they kept the entire staff and cut him....... I see why. To me he has an attitude.

I rewinded when he put his quinoain the oven and paused it. It was on 500, IDK if that was edited for TV or not though.

I wanted Aussie to get back in.

With that said, I am pulling for Louis or Shirley or Carlos I think.

Nick is a wanker.

Nina apparently cooks Caribbean pasta really well. She will probably win, but I see her cooking the same things over and over.

Edit: If I lived in NOLA and dined out a lot, I'd probably try Justin's place just for something different. As an outsider, I thought he was such a turd, I'd never go there with so many other options.
