The one last night was an interesting episode. They made Carlos out to be some awful human being, and all he said was "I need the stovetop for my fish and an oven to heat them through." But someone else needs warm plates and that's the only way to do it??
Is the element of warm plates that important in this type of challenge?

I think it was more of him saying that the guy stole his oven when in fact he had been using it all day.

To me, the oven seems like the best way to warm 500 plates.

In my opinion, hot food should always be served on a hot plate and cold food on a cold plate, especially in a cooking competition.

Nah. He was the 4th in a row who Louis beat.
So, I guess he didn't turn that "elimination into lemonade"?

I'm assuming the plates weren't gong to be so warm that the students couldn't carry them.

Not sure that I ate on a warm plate the entire time I was in college.

Not unless they'd just come out of the dishwasher.
I always warm my plate at home before serving something hot. I even warm the bowls for gumbo, but I keep my house cold, so it's necessary. I will chill a salad bowl sometimes, but since my house is cold, I don't always chill plates.

Nobody watching this anymore?

Good bump
I thought this was the most annoying episode yet.
I couldn't believe they asked Nick to "resign" as if his winning immunity was not part of the game.
Also, the "celeb" chefs had way too much influence over the contestants which took away from the real competition. IMO

I'm watching still. Last night, the whole "do you think you should resign" thing was so fricking infuriating. He earned immunity, sorry that's how it fricking works. He doesn't owe his teammates his own position in the game just because he didn't execute his part of the main contest very well. Maybe if he wouldn't have had immunity he would have fought to make something easy like a fricking crudo; instead he took on a difficult, unusual dish that he probably wouldn't have tried to make without the security of immunity.
And me and O Brah agreed that they let the celebrity chefs have too much say over the meal.

I agree. Nick won that immunity fair and square. Sucks that Stephanie also lost the Last Chance Kitchen competition, too.
How far do they go before the Last Chance Kitchen winner gets back into the regular competition?

I think the final 3 or 4 is when the winner enters. Not 100%

Like you said, I find it strange (or typical) that they have an immunity challenge and then ask the winner if they want to offer up their immunity so that they can get pounded.
Why have it if you don't want to honor it?
Sad thing is he cooked what the French chef/lady asked him to cook. The whole time she talked about displaying the corn silk nests I was saying, "Why do that? Corn silks taste awful and there is no way to make them otherwise." I can not find fault with the chefs who refused to taste them on the plate.
IMO she (the French Chef) cost them the loss.

I watched my tape. Not a terribly entertaining episode and the asking Nick to resign thing was ridiculous. Don't have immunity if you don't want to see it through. They should have never even suggested that. None of the other chefs would have done it. I don't care what they said.
The show isn't nearly as interesting now that both the local chefs are gone, but I'll see it through, just not with as much enthusiasm and I don't know that I would bother watching the series again.

Gonna watch my tape a little later. Last week wasn't so great.

Agreed it all starts with having great bread. Looked to me like they all got to use Leidenheimer.
judge is: Roy Choi: Food & Wine 2010 Best New Chef
he's laying into these fricking people

Yeah they really screwed it up with having the celebrity chefs be so involved. Then the whole "should you resign" bullshite.

Jon Favreau
him + Cafe Reconcile + making this challenge personal + "research" with Emeril. this one has some potential.
