Planted yesterday in the ground: (3) Romas, (1) Parker's, (1) Cherokee, and (1) Beefsteak.

I had to install an electric fence as well to keep the deer out. We will see if that works. SOB's eat everything.

There's an LSU Ag gardening guide I ran across through google the other day; lots of good information. Think I googled "starting a garden in Louisiana" or something like that.

What are those red things? I assume some type of watering gadget.

Also, anyone had trouble with squash plants just getting beat up by the wind. Did I not plant them deep enough?

Up here I wait till May 1st to put them outside. Been burned in the past thinking it was warm enough then getting a freeze.

Still in starter pots. Started seeds 1st week of February.

Heirlooms only.

They're called automater trays from Burpee. Helps keep base warm for root development and yes, puts water towards the roots.

<---This guy. To be fair to the squash plant it was a hurricane, but still. My garden took a beating during Isaac last year. Wiped me out.

I water every day, but the rain we had earlier this week did wonders for everything. Amazing the difference between rainwater and city water. Wish I could set up a rain barrel at my place.

rain water caries a whole lot of nitrogen. even better when there's lighting involved.

Planted 36 betterboys in nine 18" pots on Mar 9th. They're about 3 ft tall now and each has 2 tiers of flowers. Looking at about 360 future tomatoes so far (knock on wood).

Update: 3 tiers per plant, so 400 to 500 future tomatoes so far. Is that enough for 2 people?

Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Better Boy and Arkansas Travel tomatoes. I guess I will have around 20 plants in my raised beds when its all said and done. Staggering the planing.

Also have bush and pole beans. Lilac sweet peppers. Squash. Cucumbers. Lettuce. Red Onions and carrots.

Not yet since we had 13" of snow last Friday, are supposed to get 5" more tomorrow, and the frost isn't even out of the ground. Maybe in 6 more weeks?

5 tomato plants and a squash plant. I have had varying success - just trying to see what works this year. Combo of in ground and in pots. Trying some new things. If I am successful, I will expand next year.

Also planted basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. Its nice when cooking to just go out and get my own herbs.
