never paid that much after a meal and few beers

Wife had an entree, I had the baby backs, the kids had small entrees, we had a pitcher of beer and the bill was a little under a $100 for the four of us. I'm not knockin the place...I don't mind paying for good food.

Oh I know, just surprised prices would have gone up that much. Used to get one of the plates 2 meats 2 sides for $12-$14 depending on what two meats you wanted.

The Shed

Here is the web site...no prices listed.

The price on the baby backs is pretty comparable to most casual diners for that item...if you buy good Danish baby backs (and not domestic) they are really expensive.

I can't believe I didn't think about this one before. Baton Rouge needs a Five Guys burgers LINK It's one of those gourmet burger places that lets you order all kinds of toppings on the burgers. Their burgers are much better than standard fast food burgers and aren't that much more expensive. Definitely worth the slight premium over McDonalds et al. They also fry their fries in peanut oil and you can taste the difference.

Phil's out of Metairie should just open a spot in BR. Great burger joint, excellent sides and salads, exotic toppings, etc. They now have one on the northshore too.

These two would MURDER in B.R. if in the proper location, i.e. anywhere not named Plank Rd.

Think I started a thread like this a couple of months ago.. I think BR needs a Korean BBQ and Chicago Style pizza place.

I just wish Baton Rouge had:

Rally's / Checkers
Bud's Broiler

I know they're not the best places, but being from the N.O. area, I get a craving for these places. Everytime I go home I have to get Rally's fries, and nothing beats Bud's on Clearview at 4am after going out in N.O.

I wouldn't consider "The Shed" a chain, however, they are franchising (but I don't think they have another outlet yet). Mimi's is a chain and the reason I asked about that concept is that they are very close to our food selection for breakfast and lunch.

It would take a very financially strong person to open a restaurant or entertainment facility without being a chain. Very few individuals have the financial wherewithall and the operational knowledge to hit a market the size of Baton Rouge with a concept that makes a big impact. And in most cases it would be a knock off of something already proven...not that innovation is impossible, just that for the money, they would rather invest in a proven concept.

That is the reason you see so few start ups and so many chains in Baton Rouge and across the country...except New Orleans of course.

This thread was started by a local restaurant owner, so you may get your wish and he'll borrow ideas from one of the many terrible chains that no one should ever eat at.

It's Chuck E Cheese for grown ups. A good once in a while diversion, that's about it.

At some point in my life, I hope to study under a very talented chef, finish paying my dues, and open one last finale' as a great owner/chef run truly kick arse restaurant in BR. You know, the REAL DEAL.

Opie-I would love to see this happen. Just don't close your current place while you study under someone else.
