I've been on* and off it for the past year and a half. Even off it, I heavily restrict my carb intake. I've lost almost 40 pounds, and have mostly kept them off. My blood work, especially the cholesterol numbers, also greatly improved.

* Even when I'm "on" it, I just do lazy keto. The standard for my age and body make up is 21g of carbs a day. I shoot for a more realistic number of around 35-40, and I also don't count them on the weekends. I don't go crazy on the weekends, but I'll have a couple slices of pizza with the family, drink a few more beers, maybe have a cheeseburger. Have only had french fries a handful of times in the past year and half, and haven't had a single Coke or Dr. Pepper.

The first few weeks are rough. I had intense sweet cravings every afternoon as my body adjusted to the lack of sugar. Those eventually subsided, and I can say I feel so much better overall.

One thing I’ve noticed is that my resting heart rate has increased. It went from 70 to around 75 in the last couple weeks. Now I have been working out a lot more too.

I don't see how this diet is sustainable in the long term. You can only have 20g of net carbs a day. I'm supposed to go the rest of my life without eating po boys, king cake, donuts, candy, etc? Yeah, NAH. I think good old fashioned eating in moderation and exercise will do just fine.

It's not for everyone, just like any other diet. Keto worked great for me last year. I was strict for a little over 2 months, lost 30lbs, and I've kept most of that off to this day while basically not caring about the macros of what I eat lately. I don't crave carbs nearly as much as before, which helps maintain the weight loss.

I’m using it to knock off 15-20 lbs. Then I’ll probably get off of it and try my best to maintain that new weight with a normal, but smart, diet.

That's when you're trying to lose weight. You can add more carbs when you're trying to maintain. It's actually a very sustainable style of eating.

Also, some people can eat more than 20g of net carbs a day and lose weight. You just have to experiment with what works.

If eating anything you want in moderation works for you, why are you even thinking of doing anything else? Good for you, but not everybody can do that.

To be fair, these are conflicting statements. Going low carb is sustainable for some, and eating everything in moderation is sustainable for some.

I don't know why we have thread after thread with people debating this. Meet your protein goals and fill the rest in how you see fit for your lifestyle

I don't think they're conflicting. I said it's sustainable, I never said for all mankind? Just because some can't do it, doesn't mean it isn't sustainable.

I'm not putting down the idea of eating whatever you want in moderation! Why do anything else if that works? (Pretty sure that's what I said initially.)

The keto diet is a great way to lose weight. That's when you stick with the 20 grams of carbs.

The low carb lifestyle is a great way to maintain your weight. You don't stay in ketosis for the rest of your life. You add more vegetables and fruits. Maybe you have cheat days, or days that you stick to the plan but add a dessert ... but your general style of eating is to stay away from a diet heavy with sugar and less healthy carbs.

ETA: I'm not your down voter.

1 cup shredded mozzarella shaped into appox 4 x 6 rectangle
Seasoning of choice (i.e. Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel)
Parchment paper on baking sheet

Broil until it looks like this:

Let it cool and then flip it over. Fill it from one end and then roll it.

Broil for another minute. Let it cool.

The first one was pulled pork & caramelized onions & a little bit of diced pickled jalapenos, but there are endless variations.

Grilled boneless skinless chicken thigh & onions:

Cheeseburger wrap (my least favorite, maybe I needed to broil it longer in the first round and let it cool longer before cutting):

Scrambled egg & bacon:

Was wondering the same thing. Probably just a result of the misinformation campaign of fat being bad for you.
