The food at mid city beer garden is mediocre at best.

And I don't know what it is, but the vibe is off too. I almost don't consider it a bar. Am I being too tough?

Why are you going to a beer garden for food?

Completely agree. Been off for a bit. Food quality is way down. Beer rotation is non existent.

Ten years too late?
A lot of breweries have been closing throughout the country the past 3-5 years.

That’s because they went insane during Covid and the insanity never left the building since. It was like 2022 and we got aggressively scolded for leaving our table without a mask OUTDOORS when masks weren’t a thing anymore.
They don’t let you meander around, so in my brain, not a bar. Used to be a bar and was fun. Not any longer.

Yea there's no mingling there. You hang out with the people you arrive with. Pay for your $10 beer and overpriced Applebee's food. The place needs some excitement.

I live right by the place, but the food is average and the TV set up is pretty bad if you want to watch sports - you've got to be seated in one of a handful of spots at the bar.

It’s funny you say that re: excitement. I made my friend go with me a few weeks ago because I was tired of always being at the same bar. Well. We were there less than half an hour because I was so bored I was practically falling asleep on the table. lol. Gave it an earnest try!

What kind of bullshite is this?

Those brownshirts need to go out of business then.

He’s not even kidding. You have to be physically walked in and seated to even just sit at the bar. It’s insanity.

I’ll never go back because of how expensive it was for what you get, plus our service was really bad.

Yea, the place looks awesome and could be so much better. Not sure what they are thinking.

Well shite. I’ve just started relearning cool places to eat in BR (kid starting LSU, 20 years since I was there) and added this place based purely on name, but looks like I’ll be deleting it now.
Any other recs for good food and beer spots on and off campus? Other than the obvious Chimes and Walk Ons.

Everything I eat their tastes like it was cooked by white people, and by white people, I mean HWHite people, like Yankees who don't season their goddamn food and charge $20 for it due to "ambiance".

I recommend the beer and food at Pelican to Mars down the street. They have a lot of pop-ups and the food truck is consistently great. Dude puts out some massive sandwiches for 12-13 dollars.
Elsie's is always solid for food, as is Rocca Pizzeria.
Radio Bar is good for cocktails, but they don't have food typically (they do occasionally have pop-ups and food trucks).
The beer at Tin Roof isn't anything worth writing home about, but the food there is consistently good.
Brickyard has great drink prices, and the hot dogs are really good for what they charge.
Ivar's makes a great burger.
Barracuda is an excellent spot to eat expensive (but good) tacos and sip drinks.
The food and beer at The Bulldog is still good quality.
I've heard the quality at The Merchant has gone down, but I remember their food always being very good.
Zee Zee's has shockingly great food for a bar.
Zippy's is trash, and I will never understand why anyone recommends it.

Hasn't this place been shut down for a while? Did it reopen?

It’s the same food from Chelsea’s. Their grilled cheese sandwich is legit. And they have the best fries in town IMO.

Beer gardens and breweries are the philly cheesesteak of drinking establishments. In theory, it should be great. In practice, it's hot as hell, there are douchebags and hipsters everywhere, and the food quality always underwhelms.
I do not ever agree to go to these places anymore. Get out my face with that bullshite.
