The Capital Grille

We have been to the one in Chicago a few times. Its entrance mimics the Art Institute's sentinel lions and is home to the typical upper tier steakhouse experience. While in Chicago, I prefer Smith & Wollensky's, which is where the opening scene of the underrated film The Dilemma was shot (the staff there filled my request to sit in the chair where Jennifer Connelly sat), to Capital Grille. I do not recommend the Ruth's Chris in downtown Chicago. Chicago's downtown Ruth's is not good (on the whole, however, I prefer Ruth's Chris to TCG). I have not been to the one in Minneapolis.

TCG has a good wedge salad. The filet is good. My favorite sides are the mashed potatoes, the cauliflower au gratin, which is no longer on the menu but the last time they did make it for me, and creamed spinach. They do not do asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, which is a real letdown. Good is probably the most concise way to describe it.

Ate at one in Atlanta once. They had a gimmick of wheeling this 20+ pound lobster up to the table in a little red kiddie wagon to try to sell it. It's the only thing I really remember about the place, but I generally find steakhouses un-memorable.

Can't speak on behalf of the MPLS location, but the one here in Chicago is very solid - been a couple times.

Random FYI about Central Minneapolis (where The Capital Grille is), but it's a bit of a dead zone these days. Been that way since COVID / riots, so I'd recommend walking over to North Loop after dinner if you want to hit a couple breweries or bars / cocktail bars. Could also take a quick Lyft/Uber into Northeast - has really blown up over the last several years and is chalked with more bars and breweries.

Porcini rubbed ribeye with aged balsamic is very good

The location in Chevy Chase is great

Ate at the one in Dallas probably 10 years ago. Top notch. Wife and I sat in one of those giant round booths. Steak was perfect. Service was perfect. No complaints at all.

We eat at the one in Charlotte frequently.

Apps— prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, the crab cake is good (I get that for my entree sometimes), the Grand Plateau if you’re doing it up.

Can’t go wrong with the Burrata, wedge, or Caesar.

The bone in Ribeye is phenomenal as is the Filet.

The Lobster Mac is life changing, no other way to put it. Beats Steak 48, Ruth’s and Del Friscos. Creamed spinach is also on point but not the best I’ve had at a steakhouse.

Dessert—Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake, Coconut Cream Pie, or Cream Brûlée depending on what you like.

You’ll get good service, good drinks, and you won’t leave hungry.
