Last time I went there, they stopped serving beer, no more Taj Mahals. The food always been excellent.

Swagat is asshoe during the summer.

They keep the back kitchen door wide open to the parking lot.

There are visible built in AC vents in the dining area (obviously not being used) and cheap arse room-only portable units on the floor. Display at 80-something on each.

The freaking ice in your drink won’t last more than 5 minutes.

Idk if the food was good or not because it was so damn hot in there.

No mention of Ichiban in this thread. One of my favorites. Asian cuisine is definitely good in BR.

Same here. Past time for me to head that way.

Duang Tawan deserves some love in this thread. Their massaman curry is one my favorite dishes in town. Great pad thai as well.

Offset is some incredible bbq. Defiantly best brisket I've had in Louisiana.

Pad thai with tofu and extra veggies is my go to order also

Tofu has to be fried and crispy. Thai kitchen was excellent. Thai pepper doesn't do the tofu correctly so I don't get it there but extra beans sprouts instead of peanuts is *chef's kiss*.

How many new Thai spots you mention are open in BR?

I am currently in Bangkok for vacation and business. Am thinking about doing one each in Lafayette, BR and Lake Charles.... The real Thai food! I know how to cook many Thai dishes the real Thai way, however, I have a few Thai chefs who would move to cook in the US. This is my 65th trip to Thailand, as I can speak 25% their language, know many chefs and know exactly how Thai food is supposed to taste. Most Thai buffets are 75% Chinese or other and not even main Thai dishes!!!

Dubai Tiger --- what are some of your favorite spots in BKK? Restaurants or food stalls, whatever really?

This is one of my go-to spots in Bangkok. They've grown since their 1 spot on Sukhumvit opened 10 years ago, and their new spot along the Chao Phraya River is a nice upgrade.

Good deal. I've only been back to Bangkok once post-Covid and I went in January of 2020 right before the world shut down. My "go to" street vendors were no longer where I was used to finding them.

I typically stay around Sukhumvit Soi 11, and they have a lot of good Indian restaurants in that area that I'll just pop into and try. Last time I ate at a place called Charcoal that was really good, but expensive by Bangkok standards.

Gaggan was the best food deal in the world before he closed down. It seems like it was about $120 USD before drinks/tip. I would go there every time I was in Bangkok. I see he has opened up a new concept, but I think it's pushing just a bit over $500 USD per person. Too much good food around for me to drop that kind of cash for a meal.

I went to Nahm twice. It was good both times, but I didn't get the hype.

Any must eat places you recommend?

ETA: Sorry about the thread hijack...not that the subject wasn't crap anyway

Ole Soi 11 gets pretty busy …. A couple of decent spots tucked into the madness. Burapa being one of them. I had a nice meal at Charcoal earlier this year. I do love the Indian food in Thailand.

I’m digging the Talat Noi scene at the moment …. Jua, 80/20, The Very Nice Bar and some of the spots closer to Chinatown. And of course, a stroll through Yarowat road is always awesome. So many options in the city it spins the head.

Bummed to leave soon …. But it’s been 8 months! Time to get home.

Ownership change? When did that happen? The only change I was aware of was when it changed from Al-Noor to Swagat. You're telling me that ownership changed again since then?

I think the ownership changed in April of 2023 or so. Can’t remember exactly.

My wife loved the Chicken Shahi Korma. It has improved in the last year, but has not reached its level of perfection it had under the previous owners.

Ichiban

I heard Ichiban has gone downhill lately, like inedible food and a dirty dining area.

Not sure if true or not?
