Tell me you’ve only had grocery store sushi without telling me blah blah blah.

When I lived on the other side of the Pacific, sushi was a particular favorite, but it ruined me for what passes as sushi here.
Totally different experience.
Totally different experience.

Sushi isn’t some exotic new trend, this isn’t the 90s. Those who wish to be cultured have moved on to things you couldn’t even comprehend.

Was way more into Ramen and Yakisoba. I’m still somewhat puzzled to how Sushi became so popular in the U.S.

I’m allergic to sushi. Every time I eat more than 80 sushis I barf.

Sushi is the biggest waste of money
Posted on 11/22/23 at 9:28 am to fareplay
I wouldn't necessarily agree that its a waste of money. I would say it is severely overpriced. Most of the rolls I get have the fake crab, cream cheese, and avocado. These places want to charge 13-15/roll for ingredients that cost them maybe 1-3 dollars.

One reason they can do this is because making sushi yourself is actually quite difficult. Making good sushi rice is very difficult for a casual home cook. Even if the base ingredients are cheap, the technique and labor isn’t.

I don’t care for it but man, my daughters love it!

Have you tried the Yakuza House in NOLA (Metry)? Definitely my favorite meal in the last 5 years.

frick's sake...WHY?
Posted on 11/22/23 at 10:58 am to wesfau
Because I do not like raw fish ? Is that alright?
Posted on 11/22/23 at 10:58 am to kingbob
I can agree to this. This is the reason why I keep paying the price for it.

There are non-raw options without resorting to colored fish paste and a schmear meant for a bagel.
