List some surprising food facts that most people don't know. I'll start:
- A can of green beans has more sodium than a bag of potato chips.
- A bell pepper has more vitamin C than an orange.
- Louisiana Hot Sauce has more sodium than Tabasco.

A Big Mac has less calories than most of the salads people eat.

This is a ridiculous statement. While it may be correct in some instances, all calories aren’t the same. You cannot possibly think a Big Mac is better than a salad. Even if it has more calories, it’s nutritional value far surpass a Big Mac.

Apples are made of 25% air, which is why they float.
Avocado has highest protein content of all fruit.
Cabbage is 91% water.
Cherries are a member of the rose family.
Lemons contain more sugar than strawberries.
Honey is the only edible food that never goes bad.
Eggplants are fruits and classified as berries.

The statement wasn’t wrong though.
My point was that people think they’re being healthy eating salads doused in 1/4 cup of oil, bacon, cheese, etc and then can’t figure out why they don’t lose weight.

I never paid attention to the nutritional label of hot sauce. When I did look, I was surprised to see how much sodium was in it. As far as I've been able to tell, Tobasco (the regular one) seems to have about the least sodium of hot sauces.

This makes absolutely no sense

Ironic considering where it’s produced.

They don’t lose weight because they eat like shite for breakfast or dinner as a trade off for being “good” with the salad. It’s the same reason people who workout 6 days a week and eat like shite still carry around a dad bod. The salad you described isn’t that bad.

Look up the nutrition facts for some of the salads at restaurants. They entirely are that bad. Some of them worse than just getting a regular plate of food.
The dressing alone can be hundreds. Olive oil is 120cal per tablespoon.

What % of people just eat a Big Mac without fries? What % of people eat fries with a salad?

Yeah the fries are the real killer.
I was surprised once I started tracking calories when I realized a homemade burger can be done super reasonably calorie wise, even with ground chuck. Just pair with veggies instead of fries.

What if it’s a taco salad? Then it’s a salad with a Mexican Big Mac in it.

Or roasted potatoes, quinoa or couscous salad, fruit, etc. way more filling too.
Problem with salads is people use way too much dressing, and store bought dressings with a bunch of preservatives. I can’t remember the last time I bought a salad dressing. So easy to make and difference in taste and health benefits are astounding.

Most surprising nutritional fact:
90% of what you eat or don’t eat has zero impact on how long you’ll live. It’s all about genetics and luck of the draw.

Question I’ve kicked around before...
Are you better off eating healthy and not working out or working out and eating whatever you want?
Which one provides the most net health benefits?

I think eating clean, limited alcohol and caffeine, enough sleep, and reasonable movement/exercise is the best way to make yourself “feel good.” I do none of those things and my levels are great, but I don’t always feel the best.

One avocado has about 250 calories.
One forth cup of M&M's has 250 calories.
Which one is the more nutritious?

I’ve always heard you would be better off eating whatever you want as long as you exercise regularly vs eating healthy and zero exercise or activity but no clue if that’s accurate or not. I’m sure it’s a matter of degree.
