It is funny to see when threads like these pop up trying to single out one place with being sooooo bad.
I can't imagine Superior is any worse than 95% of the other grease and cheese places that try to pass as Mexican restaurants in this state.
Cucos, Coyote Blues, Las Palmas, Ninfas, Carrettas, Velvet Cactus, etc.
Are any of them really THAT much better or worse than the rest?

They're all varying degrees of shitty for sure, but the key word is shitty.

I went to Superior Grill in Sheveport last night because I was craving it and I'm a sucker. While waiting for the table I ordered my wife and I a couple of margaritas at the bar. Next thing I know the guy plunked down two 22oz doubles and gave me a bill for $43.44. I spent $50 on pre-dinner drinks. That place is making itself real hard to defend.

Its really not. Superior is more expensive and over all I think its one of the better texmex/ grease and cheese places in town. I've been enjoying Mestizo recently. The menu is a little different then most mexican places in town.

I have, took everyone there to celebrate granddaughter's dance recital. I figured in B'ham it was a safe choice, I was wrong.
How do you screw up prefab Tex-Mex that badly? Cold entrees, the refried beans side had cracks in the top from drying out, tough beef. Some9one is not even trying hard.
Finding good mid-range restaurants in B'ham, that aren't BBQ, is very difficult.

It seems N.O. has made a much better attempt at getting some good places in the last year or so, but year and free chip and salsa crowds will still flock to the crap places.

I don't want to hijack a thread, but I'm in the 280 corridor frequently and very interested if you know of some. We hit the chains mostly and that also Mudtown Cafe east of the Summit.
We usually try to stay south of 459, recently tried the Dixie Fish Company 5/10, but I wouldn't go there frequently. Crazy Cajun is my go to spot. Got any other non-chain?

I've had lunch there a few times. It's about the best cajun/creole around. Several people told me Cajun Steamers wasm good, but I wasn't impressed.
The best food I've found in Bham are the BBQ joints, specifically the 3 Saw's locations.
Crazy Cajun has the best shrimp po boy I've found in town. Let me know if you find one better.
Just not much that far down 280. People love the Fish Market, but I find it hit and miss. Mostly just 'meh.'
I live about a minute from Mudtown. It's good, but pricey for bar food. IMO the best 'bar food' in town is the Black Market in 5 points. I'll take Blackwells across the street over Mudtown and for about 2/3 the price.

Can't disagree. Never have been impressed with their steaks. When I was a single man the blue drink with the pineapples in it did me several favors, but other than that, nothing all that outstanding.
