Marinate? How long?

I generally just oil up with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Just keep it simple.

I would say it's more important to salt ahead of time

The oil can wait until the last minute

I prefer the pepper after the steak is cooked but not everyone agrees with that

I use olive oil and soy sauce. A little salt, black pepper, cayenne and white pepper. Put them in a zip lock bag and marinate overnight.

Houston's Hawaiian ribeye is pretty great. Pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.

Otherwise, Lea & Perrins, soy sauce, Tabasco, minced garlic.

Plain is best for quality meat.

Dry salt brine at least an hour before cooking... and it needs to be coarse kosher salt

Dry brine overnight, pull out of fridge a half our before cooking, use whatever seasoning you want, let sit until grill is hot, cook to medium rare(ish), rest a bit, eat.

If you buy your Ribeyes from the mexican meat truck at the gas station with a sign that says 10 steaks for 39.99, you can marinate with whatever. It won't matter.

If your buying decent meat you should never marinate a ribeye.

First things first, buy a quality piece of meat. No marinating. Putting salt on a steak starts the liquid extraction process, so I season right before I put on the grill, or in my case the pellet smoker set to 300. Room temp steak, hit it with some weber steak and chop(just salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder), then on the grill. You may have to add some seasoning when you flip.

That's how I do mine, but there are many ways to do it. To answer your question specifically, I don't marinate.

Unless you're doing Korean BBQ, just salt. Dry rubs (aka salt) penetrate but liquids don't do a good job unless they're acidic, which can destroy the meat if you marinate too long.

NO! Stop this. A good cut of meat should not have to be marinated. Next thing you know you'll be butterflying the damn thing. Jeez might as well go to Outback.
