Sour Beers, anybody? PSA

Bring on the Beer has some nice sours from Cascade, Breakside, Almanac, Trinity, Crooked Stave, and others. Pretty nice selection, actually...

Yea they had some Belgian Gueuze/krieks the other day but I was late pulling the trigger.

If you go to the Cascade Barrel House website, you can see that the Cascade prices at Bring on the Beer are actually a little cheaper than what you can get them for at the source. Shipping is going to get you, as those 750 ml bottles weigh a shite ton...
PS - I went to the Cascade Barrel House site, and the beers they have on tap are phenomenal. May have to hit 'em up soon, and get a flight...

Tried a locally craft brewed sour a few weeks ago - couldn't get past the poopy baby diaper smell.

If you're not used to drinking full-on sours, try a Berliner Weisse. This is more tart, than sour, and usually doesn't have a huge pucker factor. Bell's Oarsman and Dogfish Head's Festina Peche are available down that way. Creature Comforts Athena is another one to try, if you can get it.
If you like that, try Cascade's Apricot Sour. If you don't like that, then maybe sours are just not for you.
ETA: I see you're from Asheville. That local sour was probably a good representation of the style, so maybe you need to stop drinking them, or drink a lot more of them to acquire the taste...

I started liking them a few years ago when I tried La Folie during the New Belgium tour in Fort Collins. If you have any suggestions on Sours that are as good or better than that one, I'm all ears.
I've tried a few available around BR/NOLA. Im impressed with the NOLA sour lines, but wouldnt mind something a little better

Had a lot of bad representatives of the style as local brewers tired to half arse jump on the bandwagon. Then had one from Crooked Stave while in Denver, and the complexity sold me. There was a lot going on in the beer, and it was all really interesting... similar to a good Farmhouse. Just like with poor Farmhouses, though, with a subpar sour...it tends to be a single, exaggerated note.

Try to avoid local sour offerings. These take time. My favorite is one that gets shite on by everyone on here. Duchess De bourgeone.

A few of my favorites to look for(some hard to find some easier)...Russian River, Cantillon, Almanac, De Garde, Jester King(fruited sours), Bruery, Side Project, New Glarus, Lost Abbey, Crooked Stave, Logsdon, Cascade, Tilquin, Jolly Pumpkin, Drie Fonteinen, Jacobins, Rodenbach

I haven't done Cascade in while. Seemed like they were going straight vinegar for a while there. Almanacs early stuff was amazing. Valley of the Hearts Delight was top notch. Both distro to FL now so no need to chase them here. Same with Crooked Stave.
BOTB used to have DeGarde and Ale Apothecary from time to time. Haven't seen them in a while. Now that DeGarde is doing Cali distro I'm sure you'll see more online soon.

They still do, but it's for special releases, only. They also have some Hair of the Dog stuff, occasionally. Not sour, but their BA stuff is worth picking up, occasionally.
De Garde started out doing 37 different varieties of Berliner Weisses. Not so, anymore, and pretty much every thing I have tried from them is top notch. They are hard to find, unless you happen to be passing through Tillamook, like UT does on occasion...

Sour beers aren't supposed to smell like that. I've had many sour beers and only came across 1 that had that smell. It was Crooked Stave Nightmare on Brett, i believe. It smelled like shite, but had a good taste. However, i couldn't make it past that baby shite smell so i dumped it.

I don't know how it ranks as a sour as I haven't had any, but the latest clown shoes release (Archdruid) is an accidental sour infected with lacto from the irish whiskey barrels it was aged in. They issued a statement that if you bought it you could send your label in for your money back, so it's a low risk investment. Was supposed to be a Irish Whiskey aged Red Ale but had an oops. I didn't think it tasted too bad, but I'm admittedly ignorant on sours.
