Changing consumer habits

No cap. When the habits of college kids enjoying mediocre pizza and getting drunk on shroom tea shifted to the habits of non-college students fighting and shooting each other in the parking lot, you knew it was done. Great memories (or lack thereof) during my time at LSU.

I have noticed the quality dramatically slip over the past few years. I don't think I am going back to the one in Daphne, AL anytime soon.

Mellow Mushroom makes terrible pizza and the service is horrible. I’m surprised the one in Metairie lasted as long as it did.

Is the pizza that different than other locations at each franchise? You’d think if you did anything you’d make your pizza extra similar. I know some people are overly zealous about certain pizza, but while Mellow Mushroom isn’t the best pizza I’ve had I’ve never thought it was anywhere close to sucking. I didn’t eat at the one in Auburn because I was too broke and it was expensive, but it was usually busy.

Completely location dependent. The older the location, the less corporate they feel.

To some extent, yes, but with new management several years back they made demands on all locations that some could not fill.

Three locations near us and one near my office had to change the name of their pizza place and not identify as a Mellow Mushroom any more. They could, at least for a few years, buy the same basic supplies, like dough and sauce, and basically just be a Mellow Mushroom by another name.

The corporation did try to keep a good bit of the ambiance associated with the original Mellow Mushroom vibe.

Lake Charles location lasted less than 2 yrs, franchise owner was a doctor and his wife I think. Absentee ownership never works out well.

Too many people like the idea of having a restaurant or bar but do not have an idea on how to run one. You either have to pay for great management or be married to the business. I had an uncle find that out the hard way with Pomodori PIzza in Mandeville
