Then put in an ice bath

Also fresh eggs just don't boil well, they do much better when they are closer to the expiration date

This is what I do. Never had a problem and never a green ring.

I tried them in the oven also. Perfect.

I only use eggs my chickens hatch so they are always fresh.

Put in a pot of water. Turn on the fire. Wgen the water comes to a boil take each one out and crack it. Boil them 5 more minutes and stick them in an ice bath. Learned it from an old man farmer that I get my laying hens from.

Put a little baking soda in the water. Eggs are easier to peel.

Older eggs do boil better.

Bring water to rolling boil or just a boil?

On my particular stove, if it's a rolling boil thy are hard boiled and if it's just starting to boil they are soft boiled.
