I sure hope people go to Don Juanz. It's been great the two times I've been. Texadelphia is a good chain, but the local owners were never there and the management was nonexistent. Same for the now-defunct Freebirds. I suspect that Five Guys is not long for this world.
That entire development on the East side of Youree was a money grab by (surely) out of town developers. How is it sustainable to have two sub shops back-to-back? How many burger joints are you going to let lease here (4)? Not to mention the fricked up engineering of the parking lots on that side. If you tried to walk from Cane's to Lowe's you'd be playing a human game of Frogger.

Well ... that settles it for me. I was genuinely curious about TR every time I visited Angry Dog, but not any more. I'll stick with Angry Dog and enjoy my great burger and either fries or pasta salad.

Pretty sure we could single-handedly keep Don Juanz going with how often my wife eats there. Good food although I prefer the old style tuna tacos to the new ones. They will make it with cabbage instead of the slaw if you ask.

The sides aren't terrible, it's just that they are all deep fried. Green tomatoes, onion strings, fries, pork skins, etc. When I go, it is for the burger and beer selection.

It's different enough for me that I can eat them back-to-back. Don Juanz is more of a California style (beach theme, ya know). I feel healthy after eating 3 of their tacos. Good queso too - can't get that at Ki.

Only the portion of bayou walk by e 70th. It was condemned due to sinkhole and tenants were forced out but typical shreveport, nothing has been done about it

Been going to the original on Airline since it opened when I was in high school. Pacific Rim tacos, carnitas tacos, ceviche, and salsa are all on point. Everything very fresh. Decent margs too.
Don't expect the authenticity of Ki or Mich. It's somewhere between texmex and the real deal though.
ETA: Oh yeah, Gary is right. The queso is excellent.

Twisted root is pretty good. I loved chop house burger downtown.

While Heliopolis is mostly idealists and can be a bit condescending a lot of times, they were spot on with that article.
While he made some decent points, I think his premise is wrong. People don't follow development, it's development that follows people. You can build some more cool stuff downtown (I'm all in favor of it - more stuff to do and more to eat than Subway) but any significant population will never move back there other than single millenials for a few years. It's not sustainable for families, because it's not the early 20th century anymore and people can actually live further away with very easy commutes.
South Highlands and Southeast Shreveport are booming so it's not wonder some developers thought of moving out that way. It's homes and residents that drive those moves, not the other way around.

true but I disagree with the premise being wrong, as to me, the article was about not annexing more land further away from the city interior for new developments that will fail (statistically its a given), when you could invest more money into the interior and actually get back from your investments
the city does not make money by annexing more land
and Shreveport's downtown will never be a viable living destination as long as no real grocery store is within miles of it
downtown living is supposed to be about convenience, but if you have no place to actually buy food, its not really convenient and defeats the entire purpose

Smashburger-BR doesn't seem to do the gangbuster biz it does when I've been in ones in Houston or Denver.
And though the owner said he has rights and plans for more in BR, I suspect he may regret setting up shop right across the street from 5 Guys, Walk-On's, and Whole Foods(does a great burger)..
Wonder if he'd been better off on Perkins, Essen, Geismar,etc..?
And now Towne Center soon to have Jersey Mike's Subs..

Their (crispy) chips and salsa are awesome. The burrito pescado is great. Fish and shrimp tacos are pretty good. Margaritas are tasty.. Pricey, but they all are these days.
Bonus: I've recently been to the Bossier and Shreveport locations a time or two, and it seemed the young people working in both were a couple of notches above your typical servers in the area. All were polite and helpful.
I'm really pulling for this place.

Don Juanz is awesome. Different fish tacos from anywhere else in town. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there. Burrito in a wet suit (steak burrito smothered in queso) is a favorite of mine.
