Kinda sad to see Youree drive die. I remember growing up when it was all just fields around east 70th except for the shopping center with the movie theater, service merchandise, and eckerds pharmacy. Then bayou walk with Kroger opened up, then the target/Best Buy, etc. I used to think the traffic sucked down there until I sat in Dallas traffic on 75.

This has less to do with Smashburger as a restaurant, and more to do with the management of the building they are in
most of the restaurants listed in that article are all from the same building
Smashburger, Genghis Grill, Sake Sushi, Lenny's Sub, and Jersey Mikes were all in the same center.
Basically this has less to do with "Youree collapsing" and more to do with shitty management asking too much for rent. Just sucks because they will eventually come down on rent and those places will probably be filled with shittier chains.
I'll worry about Youree collapsing when one of the big anchors leave, which I'm kinda surprised Best Buy is still there.

Is that part about bayou walk true? Is kroger closed? I haven't been back home in a couple years.

Krogers is still there. It's just the side of Krogers. Krogers fixed its foundation issues.
And almost all of those stores moved somewhere else along the Youree corridor.
So while it looks bad because its been fenced off for 2 years now, that again really has nothing to do with Youree's economic state.

Like that side with southern maid and the ups store? That part had nothing really anyways. Smoothie king moved years ago.

Yes. Twisted Root is on Line though. I don't think they are in danger of closing anytime soon.

While Heliopolis is mostly idealists and can be a bit condescending a lot of times, they were spot on with that article.

Yeah, same place as Dallas. I always enjoy my meal there. Absolutely have to ask them to cook the burger medium, though, or they'll serve you a hockey puck.

Twisted Root is ok. Burgers are decent but their sides leave a lot to be desired.

I like TR for the beer selection and the patio.
As a parent, I love the little fenced in "yard". Gives us parents time to just sit back and enjoy a beer or 2 while the kids can run around.

Maybe, but Mansfield Rd brought itself down when the gang bangers invaded that mall. I know my parents stopped going there for that reason alone. They showed their true colors to me when they called all of Broadmoor racist. I do however agree money needs to be invested downtown again.
