Went to the Slidell location. It was a terrible disappointment. Got shrimp remoulade, thick catfish plate and a crab cake. Nothing was good. I was shocked. I’m not sure they were cooking with the right temperature grease.

The shrimp appetizer was embarrassing. It came with I assume 50 count shrimp which was poached. They had no seasoning.

This fish and fries were forgettable and sad.

Phil’s is 10 times better. And their shrimp plate is a lot cheaper.

Serves you right for going to Slidell

Manchac or GTFO

Though Spahr’s > Middendorf’s IMO

I can't comment on the Middendorf's in Slidell, but I've been to Phil's several times and it has never disappointed me in the quality and service.

If I want to eat at Middendorf's, I'll head to Manchac where I know how the food is going to taste long before I get there.

I won’t be going back. My mom wanted to try it. Even the little lady said it was shite.

Tried one of my dad’s shrimp. It was mushy and had no seasoning.

When I left, they had at least 50 people waiting in line to get in. Place will likely print money bc of the name.

I think it was a lot of Mississippi and chalmette folk.

I thought people go to middendorfs specifically for the thin fried catfish?
Thin fried catfish is always good. Everything else I’ve had is always average

That's what I had the other night and enjoyed my meal. I especially like that all the fats stay inside and we were able to enjoy the nice night on the patio. Phil's is always solid and have never had a bad time. Good people and good friends of the family.

We had the same experience a couple weeks ago. Was absolutely disgusting. Definitely won't be back until they improve. I knew the service would be bad as crowded as it was and still bring new, but the food was downright disgraceful.

Went to the original Middendorf’s a few years back and was very disappointed. All I’ve heard are complaints about the bland food at the new place, so I won’t bother. Phil’s has very good food, particularly the fish or softshell crabs dishes with.sauces. Got the softshell crab with a crawfish/mushroom sauce a few nights ago and it was the largest softshell crab I’ve ever had. Also, if you just want a nice big plate of fried seafood, Peck’s is very good.

ETA: My step-daughter works at Phil’s and I asked her if Middendorf’s has hurt their business. She said if anything, business has picked up. People go to try Middendorf’s, see how long the wait is, and head to Phil’s.

Man that’s sad to hear. Hope they get it straight. They need to get better because Slidell has other great seafood spots.

I honestly don’t know if they will, because having eaten at the old Middendorf’s, it’s just what they are. That’s an awfully big building to have to pay the note on, too.

They have only been open for a month. Probably still working out the kinks. We stopped in on Our way back from Florida after the 4th. Ordered thin fried catfish and oysters. Everything was on point and actually too much food. We got in just before the rush. I hope they can work it all out. It’s closer than driving to Manchac.
